Re: XL knives to look forward to
Military 2, Stretch XL, and Native Chief variants. A new Caly 4, as well as 4 inch versions of the Rockjumper/Leafjumper (I think the names are Cliffjumper and Sequoia), and then I believe another Chinook was mentioned (possibly looking at a switch to the Compression lock from the Powerlock). Who kn...

Re: Next Spyderco?
If you’re looking for a smaller pocket carry knife as well as a corrosion resistant knife for the beach, I would have to suggest something like a Salt 2, Dragonfly, or UKPK. Out of the smaller knives in the Salt series, I think those will carry the best and be suitable for the use you’ve described. ...

Re: If Spyderco made a traditional pocket knife
I’m not sure about proper traditionals, as there are already a lot out there, but I am absolutely all for new non-locking knives from Spyderco. There are even some we know are in the works that I’m anticipating. I am also all for more knives with a traditional aesthetic like bolsters, old school han...

Re: Spyderco x Lamnia exclusive - poll
I thought this video about the EDC of a bunch of knife people in Italy was fairly timely and relevant to a lot of the discussion in this thread regarding what sort of knives are actually carried by Europeans. There are a lot of locking knives. The selection of knives and tools isn’t significantly di...

Re: Phosphor Bronze washers: Theory and Innovation?
Aside from a few potential design challenges, the only problem I could see is that it’s probably difficult to keep larger washers or full liners as flat as you’d want them to be. If that is the case, it becomes a manufacturing tolerance and price issue more than anything. However, when possible, I w...

Re: SALT Shaman, Thoughts?
I somewhat doubt that the difference in performance Salimoneus is seeing is inherent to all MagnaCut. I don’t know what variables are actually known in their examples, but the steels (MagnaCut/Cruwear/4V) should have very similar wear resistance and toughness at the same hardness and geometry. That ...

Re: Is 15V the Chuck Norris of tool steels?
I’m still testing 15V alongside K390, Hap40/Rex45, and RexT15. I’ve been pretty impressed with this grade of steel in general, for my uses. Hopefully, we continue to see more of all of these kind of steels in the respective places Spyderco has been producing knives with them. 15V specifically has se...

Re: Any interest in the return of models like the pingo?
I forget about the Pingo for some reason, but I would like to try one sometime. I enjoy non-locking knives a lot, especially my UKPK. It’s cool that there was a K390 version. Maybe if that thread gauging interest in a Lamia exclusive is successful, it could lead to the Pingo being a model of choice?...

Re: Are We Witnessing The Death Knell of K390 In Production Folders?
I think the actual root of of the problem with a potential lack of sales or interest when it comes to things like k390, wharncliffes, and serrations, is a general lack of understanding among knife users. The market for these things, in non-premium knives, is already mostly going to be limited to bei...

There are only good things that can happen if the European market for Spyderco grows.

Re: Are We Witnessing The Death Knell of K390 In Production Folders?
Reprofiling serrations isn’t the easiest, especially with something like k390.
However, that’s a better argument for them to be ground thinner from the factory than it is against high hardness serrated edges in general, in my opinion.

Re: What's your preferred EDC blade style?
Recurve with a low tip and sharp point. The spine could be a variety of shapes and I’m fine with some variation generally. Excluding recurves, I prefer straighter edges and still lower tips. Serrations and negative blade angles greatly reduce any gaps in performance I find for everything that’s not ...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal
This is the mostly current state of my dad’s Endura 4. He likes combo edges and tends to abuse knives, especially their point, so I figured the thick geometry of this knife was a good match. After almost a year, it has held up really well! I have sharpened it three of four times, mostly the plain ed...

I’m inclined to agree with the “Salt Rockjumoer Theory” as well, which I’ve expressed several times in the past. It is being discontinued, so I’m not sure it’s gonna happen. Maybe a Sprint Run could test out the hypothesis that different materials would have been more popular, but I’m only looking ...

Re: New Endura back lock super stiff
The Stainless steel lockback Byrd I received recently was very stiff at first.
Can’t take it apart because it’s pinned, but I put it to use with some yardwork and it broke right in.
My experience with backlocks is that they break in with use.
I can’t be sure my advice will work for you, though.

Re: Extra Large Backlock Salt
The Pacifics are great, and I even prefer a ricasso over a choil, but I would like a 4 inch Salt with a lot of edge like a handle forward design/choilless design. The Caribbean is the Salt with the most edge, and I adore mine, but it does not have a self close and is still a little under the 4 inch ...
