Re: Does anyone else play music?

Primarily a bassist. Dabble in guitar and percussion. I worked for L.R Baggs for 3.5 years and while I was there, had access to some pretty significant discounts. Before I left I purchased a Breedlove Pursuit series in mahogany. Absolutely adore that guitar. My bass is an Ibanez SR500PB. Ibanez make...

Re: Home Protection and or CC

There are tons of great guns out there. For all kinds of applications. But like many here have wisely stated; what you like and what I like could be entirely different. I thoroughly enjoy my Rem 870 magnum for most applications, but even with an 18 inch barrel and a collapsible stock, it's too long ...

Re: Serration Disappointment

I have found for most purposes, a combo edge blade works wonders. I think a lot of people look at combo edge knives as two different sections of blade to use for two different tasks. I have always found that the biggest upside of having a 50/50 split of edge types is that the teeth of a serrated edg...

Re: The best pocket knife ever

Eh, we'll have to agree to disagree, I prefer the Baby Horn as a pocket knife. The only advantage a slippie has, is legality in some places. I don't pay attention to knife laws to begin with, so legality is a moot point for me. Same with guns, I carry one regardless of location or restrictions and ...

Re: So, how are you staying busy during the lockdown?

Eh. I live in CA. Friday I drove down to Los Angeles with a buddy and bought a truck. I am hospital security so like a lot of you, I am an essential role or whatever haha. I am glad to not be out of work though. When I'm not working at the hospital, I'm working on the truck. Detailing it, getting it...

Re: Has the Coronavirus affected your daily life?

Not significantly. There's more people out and about which means it takes a minute or two extra to get where I'm going. It also means I'm avoiding Walmart and Costco as much as possible. I am a hospital security guard and the hospital does not close of course, so even if there is an outbreak in my a...

Lube on Ceramic ball bearing pivots. Yay or Nay, what say you?

Looking to see what people think! I've heard people say that it IS beneficial to lube ball CBB pivots and others say no, the pivot is already a peak smoothness because of the rolling nature of the bearings. I want to know what the knife folk of the Spydie forums think!

Re: Microtech Socoms

I am having a minor issue with sharpening if anyone has any suggestions. I have 95% of the blade hair popping sharp, but for whatever reason, no matter what angle i try, the last 5% of the edge near the tip will not get sharp. I will carefully and slowly adjust angles and I just cant seem to hit it ...

Re: Regrinding Knives?

I've had a 1x30 from Harbor Freight for a few years and would echo the other comments in general. I rigged up a simple drip line with a micro valve for fine adjustment. This low-tech water cooling has a lot of advantages. While I've had a lot of success with it, the HF 1x30 is wicked fast and not v...

Re: How to deal with lost knife?

When I carry, it's usually clipped in my front pocket. I have never had an issue with pickpockets, even in very crowded venues. If i genuinely feel like the sight of a pocket clip draws unnecessary attention, I will drop it down into my pocket, provided it has a strong detent. I would backtrack and ...

Re: Does anybody want to write about knives?

I thoroughly enjoy writing. Always have. I've had a number of knives pass through my hands and usually keep them for a long time so i feel like i could at least contribute some solid content on a handful of knives. My experience is still very limited in comparison to a lot of other members here, but...

Re: What's your worst "bite"

It honestly has to be the time I was cutting some thick plastic pallet straps with a Ladybug SE at work. Had a bit of poor hand placement and it soared through a strap, straight into my left pinky. Went far enough in I felt it give a nice tap to the bone hiding under my vulnerable flesh. Bled throug...

Re: Microtech Socoms

Congrats on your new Socom, OP! I have a feeling you’ll love it. I have one in the Apocalyptic finish and I absolutely love it. It reminds me somewhat of a beefed up Millie; very sturdy, but lightweight. It is also buttery smooth and opens like a dream. I’ll try to post a pic. Thanks, SN! Id love t...

Re: Microtech Socoms

Great breakdown, thank you! I am looking at a manual as I live in CA and want to be able to carry it freely haha. I absolutely adore the look of the apocalyptic blade finish with the black handles but will probably settle for another model on the secondary market to get some savings on it. Its rare...
