Re: Awesome YouTube Video by Lance Clinton (AKA Surfingringo)

Great video! I'm an avid kayak fisherman, fishing out of a Hobie Outback and a Spyderco nut. Nice to see someone else with the same interests on here!

I'd take an LC200N PE Dragonfly to go along with my H1 SE, which I love.

Re: SharpMaker Ultra Fine Rods or Leather Strop??

Neither. Diamond or cbn rods are going to prove much more important for maintaining extremely sharp edges. It is a simple matter to make any steel sharp enough to whittle free hanging hairs with just the regular fine rods. How much sharper than that do you want your edges? If you aren’t able to get...

Re: Knife lubricant

I need to oil the washers of my tenacious, i have wd-40 and household oil, which would be the best to use Those are quite possibly the worst 2 options. wd-40 is a poor lubricant and household (3 in 1) will gum up over time. If you use it for food prep, mineral oil. Otherwise there are a lot of good...

Re: ZDP not steel?!

Raye, welcome to the forum! Great to see another interested person who likes knives, steel, and alloys. The H1 that is being discussed is used to make the Salt line of Spyderco knives. There is another called Lc200N that is a true nitrogen based steel. Some claim H1 is not true steel but it is hard...

Re: Bamboo vs. H1 serrations

The thing is, when the teeth bent, the plastic deformation that occurred introduced dislocations in the steel crystal structure causing work hardening. Probably far more work hardening then during the grinding process everyone talks about for the teeth. So now when you try to bend the teeth back, th...

Re: Spydiechef or slys bowie

I own both. I had fully intended to buy the chef, but I bought the bowie on impulse when they were discontinued and the units available were selling out fast. I couldn't believe I actually spend $300 on a knife. The worst part is, I had promised myself I was only going to buy knives I'd actually use...

I'll be carrying the SpydieChef my wife got me for Christmas. It's going to be my dinner party knife, so I can do some food prep as needed. Here it is along with my other Christmas gift.

Re: Appropriate Gift for child: Spyderco?

I have 8 and 12 year old girls. Honestly, you can't talk about that as a consistent age range. There is a chasm between those 2 ages. My 12 year old is plenty responsible, 8 year olds, not so much.

If it's a first knife, I'd start with a smaller blade.

Re: Help me shop for my first SE Spyder

Seems like H1 is the go to SE steel. Absolutely corrosion proof, work hardens from the grinding, turning what would normally be considered a low edge retention steel into a near super steel, yet still easy to sharpen and gets better with time. Aside from the FFG issue with it and the fact it scratch...

Re: Kitchen knife set anyone?

I've been thinking about upgrading from Wusthof Classics with a Japanese set, something with VG-10 or similar. I would love to have a full set of Spyderco Knives in a cool wood block with a big bug on the side. Heck, I'd make my own block if Spyderco had a full set. My wife isn't going to want me to...

Ball Bearing Lock, why not on more knives?

Curious why the ball bearing lock isn't on more knives then the Manix? I'm guessing people don't like it since the Manix also has a back lock version. I really like the ball bearing lock on my Manix.
