The problem with the batteries is really a problem with me. I rotate watches and from time to time, I'll leave a watch sit for years. I've had to replace the movements on two watches because the battery died and leaked all over the place like in an old flashlight. Yes, automatics and mechanicals do ...

I love the axis lock, carry mini grip more than any other knife. However, I equally love, love, love the ball-lock on P'kal and Manix2. I've never had any issues with needing to use two hands to open or close, though I think maybe that manix2 was a little tight when before I started playing with it....

The seiko IS NOT an automatic, but is rather a kinetic quartz which means that your movement charges a capacitor, kinda like a battery. The advantage of the kinetic quartz over automatic is that you get quartz accuracy. The disadvantage in this case is that you aren't getting a tank--even the non ja...

I was trying to imagine doing things like cleaning a fish--or slicing a tomato--with a hawkbill. I've never owned one, though I do have a P'Kal. The heavily curved knives seem like they'd be great for cutting rope/fabric, or maybe sharpening a stick, but I can't imagine their utility beyond those ty...

Thanks for the responses so far. In light of the shiny footprints thread, which I finally just read, please don't misconstrue my worries regarding the boye folder as criticism. I really like the knife and have purchased several as gifts over the years. (actually just bought a little boye friction fo...

Ready to buy first H1, which one?
I have a boye cobalt folder--the cast blade worries me so I don't like to carry it-- but I'm looking to buy my first spyderco H1 knife for general use in salty and sandy beach environment--could be for anything from cutting rope off a prop to cleaning smallish fish, from time to time. I'd like to be...

I've purchased 2: 1 pre-release/tool-up proto, and 1 regular (that I gave away). Pros: not scary looking but a serious tool, can carry it without getting dirty looks--my pal skinned, cleaned and removed the limbs from a buck with it. I haven't had any problems with slippage or cutting myself with it...

Leafstorm vs. whitetail
I gave a leafstorm to a buddy this fall (his last name is Wilkins-couldn't resist). One of the guys at his hunting camp was having trouble dressing a whitetail with some monster 8" blade knife. My buddy pulled at the leafstorm, skinned and jointed the animal with the little 2 1/4 in. CPM S30V b...
