Re: Lefty Smock Users Question

Not a lefty, but it’s one of my favorite Spydies. I just dug mine out and can open and close it with either hand no problem.

The Smock itself is an awesome knife but so are the Shaman, PM2, Chokwe and Sage 5.
The Chokwe has a frame lock. Did you mean the Watu?

(Both are awesome)
Yes I did. Sorry. Fixed the original post now. Thanks

Re: Differing tabs on compression locks.

This is one of the reasons I think the Smock button comp lock should appear on more models. I have read other comments about comp locks on the forum and off hand I think the button addresses them all. I have several knives with comp locks, and I like every implementation I have tried but I believe t...

Wow! At this point I would be feeling cursed by the knife gods! Persevere though, I have a feeling you’re going to love that knife when you get the next one!

Re: m390/20cv vs s30v

For me, I like to have variety in the collection so I would prioritize a new steel (not better but different) and not black G 10. In my use of my knives AUS-8 performed well enough. Blasphemy I know, but I would buy an older Spyderco in that steel if I came across one. I love the Manix, and the G 10...

Re: Combo Comp/Linerlock

If you haven’t handled a Smock with the button comp lock yet you might not get it. It’s the best implementation of the comp lock I have tried. (Off hand I think I have 3 others). I carry and use multiple lock types but the CBBL, and button comp lock are my preference. Not to say my favorite knives, ...

I think it makes business sense.

I think I will prefer the original but I will 100% try the new one.

This horse is definitely dead and beaten. Try the search function. ;)

Re: Loss of sharp...over time?

In science, a hypothesis might begin with an observation. Such as “the knife I sharpened became less sharp (or dull) over time”. Then to test whether this was actually the case, one would find an objective way to measure sharpness. Other scientists would then be able to repeat that testing in attemp...

Re: Native 5 with Compression Lock please!

.... Sage and Native are pretty close in blade stock thickness (3.0 vs 3.2) but yes, the thinner the better in such a small folder (as long as not thinner than let's say 2.0 mm), and the (I think?) a bit taller blade on the Sage should help with "sliciness". too. Too bad that you don t li...

Re: Anyone ever accidentally launch your knife?

I have been guilty of this behavior but I don’t do often. I haven’t ever launched one. Like everyone I’ve had a drop or two. When I get a new knife I open it with a slow thumb roll, and sometimes a Spydie drop, CBBL’s sometimes with a wrist flick if I am in a hurry. The trick of opening rapidly with...

Re: Loss of sharp...over time?

If you believe (and to be clear I do not) that the edge changes in any way while it’s protected in a drawer, why does it have to be less sharp? I think your perception of sharpness is influenced by something like confirmation bias. “I just sharpened it so it’s very sharp”. I would be willing to bet ...

I just saw some good pics of a Lum Tanto, the C 46 folder with the Appleseed grind. That is an awesome looking knife. I would love to see a revival.

Re: Spyderco is the Rolex of the knife world

I’m not a watch guy, I wear one, I even spent over $100.00 on parts to refurbish my favorite Casio a while back, but I wear an Apple Watch now and love it. I do understand the frustration with how damnably difficult it can be to acquire a knife that isn’t S30 V and black G10. I just want Spyderco to...

Re: Did Spyderco go too far in catering to steel junkies?

Maybe it's the nagging that bugs me😂 I think characterizing these requests as nagging is a bit strong? I don’t dispute your right to feel any kind of way you want about it but I think Spyderco chooses to build products people say they will buy. Then they sell them at a profit and repeat. I have bou...

Re: Bigger Dragonfly

Here's my crude sketch. The ergonomics are as much the same as they can be, I only added a bit of length to the handle and the blade at the very ends. The shape of the butt of the handle and tip of the blade are even the same exact profile as the original. https://live.staticflickr.com/7841/3323385...

Re: Native 5 with Compression Lock please!

I have been wanting a new, no thumb-ramp, 3" compression lock or CBBL knife for a long time. Either of these locks would be a great alternative to the back lock. I have and trust backlocks, but I do not like them. I want compression or, ideally, CBBL. This! The Sage and Native 5’s are really r...
