Re: What "Other" is in your pocket???

I almost always carry a Spyderco for personal-carry these days, but on days when I feel like changing it up, I often reach for the North Arm Knives Skaha II (in MagnaCut). Screenshot_20240221_113504_Instagram.jpg North Arm Knives is a small father-and-son operation that is local to me here in Britis...

Re: Upping the price.

My point about 8Cr is both from a perception and reality point of view it’s substandard. Most of the industry left it behind long ago. It’s a usable steel, I’ve used it a lot. But Spyderco is the only company trying to sell a $60 knife with 8Cr. Spyderco does not heat treat 8Cr. A Chinese factory d...

Hey, All:

Thank you for your interest in a smaller Ronin. I have some ideas and will start working in earnest on a design after I return from the upcoming IWA show in Germany.
This is awesome news!

Re: Upping the price.

Having considered all the things Sal said I really think what I want is the budget line to move off of 8Cr. I want to buy an Astute for where it's priced but with a slightly better steel (D2, Nitro V, etc). I still may buy an Astute (it honestly looks like a great knife) but the other knives on my ...

Re: We need a small fixed blade Ronin, like “Enuff-Ronin”

Would love smaller fixed blade Ronin, with FRN, jimping, great steel, and minimist Taco sheath. Loving my new microjimbo! Congrats on the new MicroJimbo 👍🏼 As for a smaller version of the Ronin, the closest thing you can get outside of chopping down the blade of your Ronin is probably the Fusion , ...

Re: Upping the price.

It wasn't too long ago when CAN$50 was the most I could afford to spend on a knife. I bought my fair share of cheap folders back in the day just so I could have a knife for work, and I don't begrudge anyone their choice to buy a more affordable Chinese folder, especially given how certain brands bas...

Re: Different knife different day, or one knife for life?

Every day I throw a multitool in my bag, a traditional slip joint in a little sheath in my pocket, and I grab a modern folder. You'd think, grab and go! But NOOOOO. I grab one, then I put it back and grab another with better action, then I swap that out with one that carries better in the pocket, t...

Re: The MicroJimbo reviewed: The Yojimbo 2 as a "little big knife"

The MJ is spot on for me!! I just have a question for the afficionados. Why do you think it is not constructed with all Torx? Thanks The MicroJimbo is held together with all Torx screws. T10 for the pivot screws, and T8 for the body & clip screws. Now, if you're asking about the use of a should...

Re: A New Thread For Axes, Hatchets, Hawks & Other Striking Tools

I designed this variation of a fighting tomahawk. From my past careers in the Military and LE, plus being a practitioner of FMA and Silat, this design complements my skillsets. I took design traits from my northern cousins from the Philippines (Igorots) head hunter axe. I shrunk it down so one can ...

Re: The MicroJimbo reviewed: The Yojimbo 2 as a "little big knife"

Wow. This is amazing. Can we get a quick TL:DR pros and cons between the MicroJimbo and ChicagoJimbo?? Thanks! In my estimation, the primary factors that will determine whether one should pick a MicroJimbo or a ChicagoJimbo is handle size and contouring. The MicroJimbo has a smaller handle, I can j...

The MicroJimbo reviewed: The Yojimbo 2 as a "little big knife"

When word first started going around the forums a couple of years ago that a smaller version of the Yojimbo 2 was in the works, my interest was very much piqued. The Michael Janich-designed Yojimbo 2 is my primary work knife, and has been for several years: While Spyderco’s so-called “tactical Wharn...

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

I almost always carry a Yojimbo 2 outside of work but carried the Yojumbo while I was out on the trails today, as its larger proportions make it less fiddly to handle while wearing winter gloves.

Re: If laws and public perception were no issue, would you carry a different knife?

So it got me thinking - would you guys carry a different sized knife if there were no blade length laws and no potential issues with public perception? Or would you carry the same size you normally do? Very interesting question, and one I hadn't really considered before. Strictly speaking, there is...

What is everyone else's experiences with hawkbills? I feel like I've slept on them way too long. Here's an extensive user review of the Karahawk that I posted a while back. My thoughts on hawkbills (and the Karahawk in particular) largely remain the same (except for the part about the Karahawk bein...

Re: Reveal 14 is on FIRE

My favourite thing about this recent Reveal is the expansion of the MagnaCut Salt line to include the PM2. I have a non-Spyderco folder in MagnaCut, but it's not a design I would seriously press into service as a regular rotation work knife (it's more of an EDC/"dress" knife design). No su...

Somewhere between 0.025" to 0.035" IIRC. Basically in the Native 5 range.

Re: What do you view as the main grip on these types of knives?

On knives that offer a comfortable, full grip for you either using the choil, or behind the choil, what do you view as the main grip? I voted "depends on the model". There are smaller models that I can conceivably get a full grip behind the choil such as the Native 5 that I almost always ...

Re: Reveal 14 Live!

So many great knives in this reveal, albeit none of them I've been specifically looking for. Definitely getting the PM2 Salt in MagnaCut, maybe even both versions. The PM2 is a mainstay in my work knife rotation & I'd love to compare & contrast its performance to that of the CruCarta PM2. Th...
