Many hollowpoints get clogged penetrating drywall, too, and essentially turn into ball, which is another argument for a high velocity rifle round (which will disintegrate and penetrate fewer walls) or a shotgun (which my it's nature is already "fragmented").

So I wanted to see what the big deal was for myself. I went out and bought a used PM2 off ebay, and it arrived today. My first observation was that the compression lock on the PM2 is much smoother than on my Superleaf. The PM2 flicks open easily, like my Manix 2, where the Superleaf never would. The...

I assume 4.2 pounds is the "shipping weight" including packaging and padding, and always overstated to give a margin for error in postage. Blerv, thanks, I'll call Spyderco tomorrow and inquire. I may just go with Cutlery Shoppe anyway, because I'd prefer to patronize a business in Idaho t...

Another piece of advice for the OP: What you load a handgun with is often more important than the caliber. Be sure you research whatever load you decide to use for actual defense scenarios, and that you're happy with it's performance. My personal favorite 9mm load is the Winchester Ranger 127 grain ...

I would suggest a G17 with a couple 33 round magazines. I own two G17's and have put tens of thousands of rounds downrange with them, but in this case, I wonder if it's not the wrong solution. The original poster is looking for a single handgun to meet his needs. He may eventually decide to carry t...

In an apartment environment, you need to be even more careful about over penetration. Just a thought. Definitely true. In my experience, 9mm is the worst over-penetrator, but all handgun rounds are pretty bad in wallboard. Box o' Truth ( http://www.theboxotruth.com ) has some interesting (but not t...

I am just curious about what advice you guys have for a new shooter. 1) Get some good training. It's worth the money. It's especially worth the money if you do it first thing--before you can develop bad habits that may be hard to break. 2) The difference between the M&P and the Glock really com...

The racking of a 12ga shotgun may make an intruder think twice about their actions. There is no doubt about what that sound is and what is on the other end of it. Honestly, I don't subscribe to the "rack the shotgun and he'll pee his pants" theory. In a real HD situation, I'd try to be as...

Others will certainly disagree with me but for home defense I truely prefer a shot gun over any handgun. Hand guns are great. Easily carried when your out. But if there's someone in my house, I'll grab the Ithica. Have you fired a shotgun indoors? In my opinion, if you want to use a shotgun for HD,...

Was the Glock you shot a Gen 3 or a Gen 4? If you're going to have just one gun, get one that fits your hand and you shoot well. For me, the Gen 4 Glock fits my hand better than the M&P, but the M&P fits better than the Gen 3 Glock. I also shoot best with the Gen 4 Glock, so my EDC is a Gen ...

Paramilitary 2: What's the big deal?

It seems like the PM 2 is one of the hardest to get Spydies. Can any PM 2 owners explain to me what it is that makes this specific knife so great? I'm trying to decide if I should jump in and grab one, and I keep wondering what the advantage of the PM 2 over my SuperLeaf is. The knives just seem so ...

> 1. Shooting people may be no less bloody and traumatic than using a knife. The only difference may be that you are slightly further away, so you do not see the full extent of the harm that you have inflicted on a fellow human being I don't really care about the trauma I inflict on an attacker. I'm...

Exactly. All you people that claim a gun is all you need - do you carry when you put out the trash? How about "just running to the store"? While watching tv? Does your job allow you to carry a gun? Yes, yes, yes and yes. I'm sitting on my bed with my daughter, typing on the computer while...

Colt Government model 1911.

My grandfather carried it from 1945-1946. He brought it back from the Phillipines (where he lived for several years after the way) in 1951, along with his pretty young Filipina bride and their baby daughter (my mother).

I teach fixed object parachuting (BASE jumping). I feel like I've won the job lottery. I've spent years getting here, but I presently own my own business doing something that I love so much I'd do it for free. In fact, I used to do it for free, and I still do free work from time to time. I'm frankly...

Is it really so dangerous to life in the states? Statistically, the rural USA (outside of cities with population of more than 150,000 people) is the safest place in the world. It's also, statistically, the place in the world you are most likely to encounter a private citizen who is armed. I know lo...
