Re: Spyderco blades with 440 series steel?
CPM-440V is the old name for CPM-S60V. CPM-S60V and Elmax are very similar with some difference in chemistry. 440 class steel covers a very very wide range of steel alloy ranges. A lot the current "super steels" are 440C class steels with added tweaks in composition here and there with pow...

Thanx Zenith. That's the kind of feedback I was expecting.Did you ever try to restore the tips ? On my Delica I have. Just used a rat tail diamond file. Kept the angle constant to the original bevel of the scalops and file away until you start forming a nice sharp pount again. "Rat tail diamond...

http://i840.photobucket.com/albums/zz325/geronki2/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_8194_zpsrjp5e6ih.jpg I'm curious how much of that tip loss is from use, or if it's mostly from how you've been sharpening that blade from the back side like that. That is use. The front tip has by far seen the most dulling and s...

Re: H1 serrations for edc
One of the best knives I have ever bought. High praise indeed from someone who likes his customs... :) I just might need to get one of these, or a Pacific Salt SE... For my uses on site it has really performed. Or at least I made it perform because I do not always carry a custom on site. The Atlant...

Re: H1 serrations for edc
It's not a secret that I am a spyderedge fan.Big fan.I am about to make an experiment and to start edc-ing a H1 spyderedged blade for at least 6 months or so.I am doing this to prove to myself that a spyderedge blade can take care of any mundane task someone might imagine as well as a plain edge or...

Re: S90V VS M390 Fight!
Which steel in your opinion is superior to the other as a well rounded steel S90V is better m390 is overrated, unless you want a very corrosion resistant steel that has good edge retention. Otherwise, S30V is just as good. Wow, a 4 year bump. Have to admit, my knowledge on steel has increased since...

Re: GB1 vs GB2 - Now that it's been out a while
After looking at the recent videos on the GB1 and GB2 I think the GB2 is a completely different knife. GB1 comments from Gayle https://youtu.be/Qk0IxU-fuW4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; GB2 comments from Gayle https://youtu.be/EUaA0xkygws" onclick="window.open(th...

Re: pin construction fans
On inexpensive knives pins are fine. You don't want it on higher end knives because if something goes wrong you're ... screwed :) Going to have to disagree with you based on all the traditionals and modern folders I have and seen used for years without issue. People have been cleaning them for year...

Re: Manix 2 XL oddity
In my experience, moving and working and kneeling a lot, with time and a lot of carry the handle bends a bit unless it is a full Ti frame. Maybe that is what happened.

Re: Potential for Spyderco "front flipper" model?
There is a difference between a front flipper and lip opener. Locally here in South Africa we distinguish between the two because of the people that developed them as a sign of respect rather than chucking them into the same boat. Here was a recent discussion on another forum http://i1104.photobucke...

Atlantic Salt regrind to high hollow.
The Spyderco Atlantic Salt is one of my most used knives on site. Here it was when new. http://i840.photobucket.com/albums/zz325/geronki2/2012/DSCN1226800x600.jpg Using my 1X30 grinder I did initial regrind to a convex. http://i840.photobucket.com/albums/zz325/geronki2/2014/DSCF4068_zps25e826f6.jpg ...

AEB-L/14C28N at good HRC of 62 and 61 respectfully with cryo treatment is really something else. Shame not more people really experience these steels with such heat treatments.

Re: Let's talk about the Cast 440C used by the Serrata
Though I cannot comment on the Serrata, except that I want one, I have one of Stuart's knives. A bird and trout pattern that I have been using for some time now. The steel loves a coarse grit. I have experimented a lot and for extremely aggressive slicing I do a 120 grit finish. It just keeps on cut...

Re: working with titanium
My 0.2 cents.
Use taps for through holes that generate long chip breaks, similar to what one would use on Aluminum. Not taps designed for short chips like stainless steel or tool steel.
