Re: Would you buy an AEB-L Military?
^ I doubt Cashen, Verhouven or Landes would absolutely condemn anyone trying new experimental ways to heat treat. I do however believe that given their backgrounds they have seen certain claims made and are skeptical without seeing blades under microscope and running tests themselves. Nothing wrong ...

Re: Would you buy an AEB-L Military?
Reading this thread made me remember a recent post by a maker. [QUOTE=Horsewright;16550073]Over the last couple of years there have been numerous threads here on just how tough is AEB-L and how well does it hold an edge. Thought I'd share this with you. Few days back I come home from the ranch and f...

Re: Would you buy an AEB-L Military?
The main argument of AEB-L being similar to 52100 does not come from Cliff IMO, but rather from Metallurgist such as R. Landes and J.D. Verhoeven. Either way. AEB-L, 14C28N, LC200N, any one of them I would love to own in a variation of the Military. My experience with them in customs (excluding lc20...

That looks really nice. Never noticed the military has silver hardware with the black blade compared to the now DLC para with black hardware.

Re: Steel types vs sharpening difficulty
I have seen people have a hard time re-profiling 12C27 at 61HRC never mind an even more wear resistant steel at that hardness. My advice is to spend some money and buy a good low grit diamond stone for re-profiling. You can easily do a XXC diamond grit (from DMT) when re-profiling and then ad a 20 d...

Re: Spydiechef (lc200n) performance thread.
I was wondering why I don't see this steel offered in more kitchen knives. Maybe it's just because it's a newer offering (2013)? One interesting note I saw: it's used by NASA as a replacement for 52100 ball bearings. If it can perform that task at the noted corrosion resistance...sweet. :spyder: Ed...

Lance. So far from your feedback lc200n is performing similar to what I anticipated. Keep it up and look forward to even more feedback.

Re: Manix2 in CTS-XHP short review.
Recently got the Manix 2 in this steel with the brown FRCP handle; l love it. l haven't taken any pics yet but the brown is great. It is the exact same colour as Dairy Milk chocolate from the UK. It actually have a very slight red/burgundy hue in the brown too. Very nice. The ergos are great. The b...

Re: Spyderchef dropping
Know nothing of this steel. Where does lie in the steel tree? Between what and what? If no better than vg 10 there is no way I would pay close to $200. You pay for the 'cleanliness' in these type of steels. A lot of care goes into the chemistry and clean processing. More so than most. That is why y...

Re: LC200N Steel Update: You will like
Sure does. Would love to do more work in LC200N, but the craze is still mainly high carbide steels. Demand for M390/CTS-204P etc is high. Way more than for LC200N and equivalent in my experience.

Des Horn, Andre Thorburn, Andre van Heerden, Johan Arnold, Neill Schutte etc. Quite a lot of local talent.

Re: MT22P - Mule Team Fixed Blade with RWL 34
Though I wish I could have gotten one of these I am pleased to read the comments on RWL-34 as my experience with the steel in customs eco a lot of sentiments.
It remains one of Des Horn's favorite steels and he introduced me to it. It is IMO, one of the steels with the best balance of properties.

From what I could gather it appears to be. From Steel Heat Treatment Metallurgy and Technologies, George E. Totten the following table is published on page 678. These knives are so wonderful and light. Great workhorses and FRN holds up great. May the new one serve you well!
