One other factor - some older knives might have a bit too much loctite. This will make it hard to loosen and swap scales for a different reason. I think this peaked 2-3 years ago?
My Watu had barely any loctite - easy to dissassemble. Definitely worth getting some nice torx drivers though.

Re: Hope for a Chaparral with upgraded steel?
Hmm. I guess I will hope more for some micarta scales rather than steel upgrade. I agree that for 2mm slicer, XHP is more than adequate.

Hope for a Chaparral with upgraded steel?
Let me start by saying that I have no problems with the Chaparral and XHP- just always wishing for more :D In the past, the Sage series was to explore different locks. The Chaparral was to explore different handle materials. Both lines kept the same blade steel (except the first gen Chaparral in s30...

Re: How often does Spyderco upgrade knife versions?
You can search for delica5 - not an official thread, but conjecture of what changes would be incorporated. The consensus was that adding a choil would not be consistent with a delica. As mentioned, there are other options if you prefer the choil - like the stretch or a chaparral. Or consider after-m...

Re: Odd milestone - who took all the g10?
I dislike only-metal scales. I don't actually dislike g10 - which is why I find it so odd that I have none of it anymore. One benefit of micarta - much easier to chamfer the edges. Maybe if knives started coming with chamfered g10 like the shaman, I would own more g10 again?

Odd milestone - who took all the g10?
Like many of you, my knife tastes have changed (evolved?) over time. I started with aluminum and titanium, and scorned frn. Then came g10 (in any color, as long as it was black), with a little carbon fiber mixed in. Lately, I have been swapping out scales for micarta and wood. So when I look at the ...

Re: Any interest in more Phil Wilson collaboration?
First off - I will get one, no matter what the knife - style or steel. I have used the Southfork, Sprig, and Bow River. The finger choil ergonomics never quite worked for me - I much prefer the Bow River. A Smoke Creek might be perfect (especially without the choil), since the other patterns have al...

Re: New here & just bought 3 knives
Welcome. I am a bit puzzled though... you bought three knives. One for everyone else in your family? :p
For smaller hands (and actually bigger ones too), the dragonfly is wonderful. I second the frn version rather than the g10 for better portability.

Welcome.
I see from your other post that you have moved on to the Watu as well. The fun is only just beginning.

What kind of wood is that? Love the tone and the figuring.
The solid wood makes the knife look so different from mine (with holes). It's making me consider another set of scales...

Re: Production Cruwear and 4V
I've had cruwear, and think it is fine. For a folder, I personally do not need that amount of toughness and prefer better edge holding. 4v on the other hand - I would love to see more of it. It is my most used mule. For my uses, I still prefer k390 and rex45, but would think hard about any knife in ...

Re: Watu - aftermarket scales?
Those are awesome looking scales, both of them. Maybe it's just me, but I really think that the ethnic design of the Watu really stands out with wooden scales. Yes, I completely agree with this. I did a search a while ago on the Watu and Chokwe, trying to get a sense of what the original pattern lo...
