The Pattada. Looked great on paper. I just did not like it. I was hoping for a sort of ethnic Military. The Military is a 100 times better in terms of materials and build quality and overall feel. The Military is special. Could you describe your experience in a little more detail, please? I'd wante...

1.) M4 or S110V - yes. My S110V just spent a week in a forest, and it's still shaving sharp. 2.) Does it matter if you carry it in a back pocket? The clip's tip-down, and that is much worse. 3.) Seriously, what do all you people use knives for? Cutting boxes all day? An EDC knife, at least in my exp...

The Rock Lobster was an interesting piece, I'd love to handle it sometime. And the Ethnic knives, especially the Pattada and Hungarian Folder always struck a cord in my heart.

M4 Military. Getting out of the forest after using this one right now, and it's excellent.

Hi, StuttgartMadness: Welcome to our forum. We hope you enjoy your time with us! We're bound by federal law so oftentimes the changes made at a state level have less of an effect than one might realize (even our own state). We also have city and county laws to abide by as well. I think this discuss...

Re: The Militaries; What Spyderco Does Very Well
That BladeHQ special run looks gorgeous but the M4 steel and the comments I've seen around about it not being Stainless Steel. I am not a metallurgist so I don't know if that's just bunk. I don't want to have to baby a Steel. M4 is not stainless, but you do not have to baby it. Get a patina going a...

Re: I'm looking for an Endura 4 Super Blue
Well, I'm in Russia, and I got one for about 150$ half a year ago. There are forums in Russian where these pop up from time to time, but the local sellers are unlikely to ship abroad. Still, the prices are far less outrageous. I haven't been able to find a HAP40 one, though.

Re: Change in Sharpmaker packaged stones
The Sharpmaker is a tool for keeping knives sharp, not for bringing them back from the dead. The diamond rods make a difference, but they are still insufficient for reprofiling - which you'll need for almost every knife, since factory edges are weird and rarely have 15 or 20 dps. Messing an edge up ...

Might I suggest 4V? My Mule is excellent - it sharpens well and quite easily, and it keeps the edge for a while.sal wrote:So I guess the next question is; what would be the preferred steel?

Re: Stainless steel that behaves like a carbon steel
M390 in not stainless M4. M4 sharpens to a way more aggressive edge. I personally don't like stainless steels because they feel kind of bland while cutting (in comparison to M4, PSF-59 (which is simular to 10V), K390 or Super Blue). But I've only tried the S...V range, Elmax and M390, so maybe AEB-L...

Not that it should stop anyone from wanting to try it, but I just realized Cowry-X is basically Daido's version of ZDP-189 (Hitachi). For some reason I never made the connection until now. ZDP-189 and Cowry-X respond differently to heat treats. There are some guys in Russia who have achieved great ...

Manix 2 XL? Something big and thin, a cutter! The Police 4 fits that description as well, but the last I've heard there were issues with K390 availability.

never, ever use the flat sides of the rods. Could you elaborate on that, please? Because in my free-hand experience I was able to get a mirror polish on the UF's flat side. I'm also curious to hear why you only use the corners. For touch ups, I also free hand with a single SM rod but use only the f...

Maybe, but it's very easy to create a patina which prevents further corrosion.PayneTrain wrote:It's certainly less corrosion resistant than M4
