Topic: Poll: Very Large Folder weight?

Bringing up my fave big folder again, my Cuda Maxx is much more carryable than any other number of knives I have that weigh less... so I'm a little hesitant to draw a line in the sand as far as weight, until I can check overall carryability.

Piet, I'm not familiar with all the ways one might use a static line, but I'm not sure I see how that would be a good solution for the ways people like to carry pikal knives (eg., appendix carry). With a static line, where exactly would the sheath be mounted? If you go to this link: http://www.shivw...

really. Wouldn't be that quick. I think your better off to buy a streetbeat. Just by way of explanation: the P'kal is designed for fast draw into reverse grip edge-in, with ergonomics that support that grip. The Street Beat is a disaster in that grip, and even if it weren't, it doesn't have a sheat...

I voted C also, though I've been a bit worried all along how the poll choices were phrased. "Folding slicer" may be interpreted by some as a folding fillet or chef's knife, which I don't think many people want. I'm looking for something robust enough for MBC, but still light enough for car...

Hmm, fixed blade p'kal and a sheath that lets you draw into edge-in pikal... that'd be interesting.

I have a VG-10 knife in my pocket also. The #1 reason is that a knife is a lot more than the steel, and the waved endura is such a great knife, I'd be carrying it even if it was ATS-34, or probably even 8A. Beyond that, VG-10 is a great steel. I find it's one of those steels that I just have an easy...

I'll take one for sure too, but dunno about hot cakes? I wonder if the non-stainless blade will be an issue for most people. I am always surprised at how many people won't buy fixed blades that aren't stainless. You're probably right, a Caly 3.5 w/ super blue is an aficionado's knife, not a normal ...

People like tip down for the same reason others like tip up. It works for them, all good, just different. Please retract this and replace it with a statement as to why people who like your chosen carry method are superior to those troglodytes who choose the opposite method. You're ruining our buzz....

Tip-up is SLOWER. It is. Spyderdrop or no Spyderdrop. It's also more difficult to get the knife out of the pocket. You mean, for you. For me, a fast, *reliable* opening, tip-up is faster -- grab and thumb open with no pinch grip. Also, tip-DOWN is LESS SAFE. How can a knife carried tip-up open up i...

The advantage of tip-up is, you can pull and open the knife without ever pinch-gripping. Tip-down, every opening always involves a pinch grip. For any use which involves stress opening, tip-up is the way to go, as anyone who has ever thrown their knife across the room on a fast pinch-grip opening (a...

i dont mind the hole in the blade. a bajillion people have ripped off spy with impunity so THAT doesnt bother me. Just for clarity, Spyderco has IP protection on a few hole shapes, but I don't believe that particular oval shape is one of them. Not everyone who puts a hole of some sort in the blade ...

I've never sharpened a knife in my life, would it be easier to just send it to Spyderco and have them sharpen it? Sending it to Spyderco means packaging it up, maybe a trip to the post office (always fun! I love when the lines are realllllllly long!) to send it off insured, hope it makes it to spyd...

It depends on whether I want that edge toothier or more polished. On a knife I finish on the fine stone, I'll do the 20degree strokes on the fine stone. On a knife I finish on the UF, then I use the UF.

Joe, are you doing this on a Sharpmaker? If so, what technique do you use (or recommend to a novice---like me :o ) for back beveling at less than 15 degrees? Thanks, Andrew The thing about the back bevel is, while of course you want all parts of the edge to be as perfectly accurate as possible, it'...
