For me I'd want as close to the original C44 design as possible. Handle slab choices:1st preference Micarta, 2nd G10. I have no problem with FRN but IMO this could not do the original C44 justice. Steel Choices: 1st V10, 2nd H1 (SE Yes! PE not so much :( , I love my CPM D2, & M4 .I am itching fo...

Don't you know real men carry tip down! :D

Honestly though the most important safety factor is that the spine of the blade sits next to the pocket seem. I.e RRP-tip down. RFP-tip up.

FWIW I only carry tip down at work.

Primary RRP SE 440V Millie
Secondary IWB, gets rotated as needed : D2 Para, Ti Lum Chinese, M4 Millie or GB M4 during the working week.

Weekends: I only carry a mini Persian usually.

But as far as actual backups go.. I have 2 D2 Paras & 2 SE 440V Millie's (and another one the way :D !)

Johann, I've fairly large hands too. The most comfortable Spydie I've encountered so far is the Chinook II / III. While I don't presently own one, based on the very similar handle shape I'd be looking at the Superleaf. The GB M4 works well for me, as do the Millie's. Other possibilities which might ...

I haven't got my hands on a Superleaf yet, but from the looks of things it's everything I wanted the Manix 2 to be. Anyway here's a pic of my early attempt at the "leafbeast" from a couple of years back.... ;)

Strangely nothing so far, but that G10 Persian 2 itch gets worse by the day and I'm trying my hardest to not look at any of those **** Super Blue Caly images ...... the weeks not over yet.

The C44 Dyad has always been a "must have" for me. So far I've never seen one that's been within my financial reach. Obviously I'd love to see a sprint, although I think unless this is kept relatively affordable by using the more common products & blade steel the costs could escalate v...

Hey you never know, FWIW I recall Ed mentioning the original (yes the first model) GB M4 concept had Ti liners. That info here: http://www.spyderco.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38045 obviously some things change... From what little I've seen the of updated Bradley, there's actually nothing that I'm o...

I've already owned a full Spyderedged 440V Mili ;) :D I wish I had it back :o I would not turn down a good offer even on a used 440V, SE Mili. But now we need to fast forward to NOW!! I do want another Military model but I want it in one of the newer super-steels. But Jez I do hear you loud and cle...

Surely there were good reasons for the choice of steel, but, sadly, for me it's a deal breaker. That's the opposite for me, Aside from the initial wharncliffe design M4 is the only real reason I'll be buying this knife. Like I said earlier the glass fiber, and those exposed liners aren't to my liki...

Well kudos to Spyderco for keeping knives like the Para 2 & Manix's at around $100 which is realistically attainable for the bulk of us. However I feel that the pricing of some of the collaborations these days are getting well and truly over the top. We all have our limits, I usually don't consi...

The Yearly Spydie Tally

Okay, the years almost over... So it 's about time to see what Spydies you bought this year.

I'll start the ball rolling....

It's been a real quiet year for me, I only picked up these two :
  • C65TIP Lum Chinese
  • C36S 440V SE Miliie (Yes another "backup" :p )

I'm still boycotting the Para 2 until it appears with a full Spyderedge . Aside from that I could not resist a Ti/G10 integral comp lock Para 2.

It's looks like a nice little tank of a knife with great steel too, I'd love to own one, but I honestly cant justify spending that much on it. For that sort of money I'd rather be buying sprints & grails.

  • KW M390 Millie
  • Ed's 3V Tuff (hopefully)
The only only thing out of the 2012 cat that perked my interest was the Bradley Air, the Techno's on the radar but a bit pricey for my liking.

S30V has never impressed me nor has it agreed with me. I've happily stayed away from it for the past couple of years now. For "general purpose" edc I'll take VG10 over S30V every time.
