Love that knife. I'd like to see it with some nice burled desert ironwood scales.

My tastes are always changing. I used to be put off by the straight spine of the Military/Para/Para 2 style knives, now i love it. I was drawn into Spyderco by leaf shaped blades, but i'm starting to get a little burned out on them now. I try to let ergonomics be the deciding factor in any knife tha...

Is it just me or does this method of drawing a SE along a rod as you would a PE seem like you're missing parts of the edge? It just seems...sloppy. I can't stop thinking that i need to work each individual serrations one by one to really get the sharpest edge.

Ok, I think I got it. On one rod was a tiny speck of red left that I could see through a loupe. So I looked at the ends of the remaing rods, and if you look carefully you can see the a subtle difference in the coarseness of the stones. Try it Evil and let me know what you think. Sounds about right ...

Oh one more thing, with a Delica you'll get the option of a 4 way clip, with the Salt 1 you're stuck with tip up carry only. This may not matter to you though. I actually like the old barrel screw clip design that the Salt 1 uses. Another knife you might consider is a Native lightweight. They're abo...

Here is a great video. I'd also like to praise the Spyderench or Byrdrench. They are both discontinued but getting one whould be a great decision if you need a multi-tool if you can find one. I have one and it with a SOG PowerLock makes for a small tool kit that has everything you need in a small s...

If you want something slightly smaller, the Dragonflys are awesome little knives. They're way more compact but in my opinion feel way better in hand and have better ergonomics than a Delica, and they have less than half an inch less cutting edge and you gain a 50/50 choil which i prefer having. The ...

The showdown: Edge Pro vs. H1/Hawkbill/SE Ladybug (lol)

Ok. School me. How the heck do i sharpen this tiny little miniscule blade on my Edge Pro? I don't fully understand what he's talking about in the DVD about sharpening serrations either. Not only do i suck at sharpening serrations, but dealing with them on a hawkbill blade is a whole different matter...

Well, H1 would be perfect for a humid climate, but i wouldn't expect VG10 to rust in just humidity/average moisture. If you took care of it i think it would last. In your price range, i would look at a VG10 Delica 4 or a Salt 1. Here's some links to compare the two (remember these are MSRP prices al...

Maybe try looking at an edge through a strong loupe after making passes on each stone and try to tell which one leaves bigger scratches. That's a good question.

I am probably too subjective to the "feel" of knife handles. As such, texture is a major factor in my choice of EDC. While I own several G10 models, I don't carry them much because of the sandpaper like texture. I realize that G10's rough feel is what adds utility for some folks, but I do...

I voted G10, but i really wish peel ply carbon fiber was more readily available. I do like the twill CF though, it's just not as grippy as G10. If a handle is going to be a flat on the sides as many Spydercos are, then the handle needs some grippy texture to it. I've always liked the simplicity of s...

It just depends on how strong your thumb is and what you consider sticky. My old Paramilitary always had blade play and it bugged me so I tightened the pivot enough to eliminate it which made opening pretty stiff compared to something like a Sage or Manic 2 but it was tolerable and still easy to ope...

I wear a '99 GC-2000 daily. My brother gave it to me when it was new. It's seen a lot over the years. Looks like this

The detent is fairly strong but the blade is pretty heavy, i can snap my wrist and open mine with no problem at all. You'd definitely have to tighten the pivot to overcome this. As far as how it would effect thumb opening, i guess it depends on how tight you make it but obviously it's going to stiff...

Leaf shapes are more versatile but if you use the tip to cut a lot then wharnies are unmatched. There's a reason utility knives use the same shape.

As far as wearing out the tip, my experience is that you just need to sharpen the entire edge equally and you won't have much issue with it. My Centofante 4 has developed a very slight upward sweep to the tip, but i've mostly sharpened it on a Lansky, which has some issues with wharnie blades.

Personally, I pick the model over the steel. If there is an option I really enjoy it though :) . I tend to agree, although there are knives i've bought or not bought because of the steel that was/wasn't an option. I know a lot of people rave about 154CM, but it never did much for me and that was a ...

I'm pretty easy to please. I use an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 6000-C from about 1991 or so on a Shakespeare Ugly Stick Lite Pro rod. It's small, light, extremely strong and pretty easy to use. I usually only fish in lakes but i haven't met the fish that it can't reel in.
