Re: Do you have "easy to sharpen / high edge retention"-pairs of your favorite Spydercos?

I have stainless and non-stainless pairs. For me, diamond bench stones make most steels feel quite similar during sharpening, so my focus is on edge strength, edge retention, and stainlessness(if needed). This means both stainless and non-stainless are necessary in my climate and the things I cut. T...

Re: How has SG2/Supergold treated you?

I had a Fallkniven F1 in 3G (SG2) and it seemed like a decent mid-range steel, that had nice sharpening response, and a somewhat dull edge could be stropped back to shaving sharp with absolute ease. I never experienced any edge damage, but primarily used the knife on softer woods. I even stropped th...

Re: Spyderco in use, review/feedback thread

I broke down last Monday (forgot to update... ) and sharpened the Rex45 Shaman; cutting was becoming dangerous, and it didn't make sense to continue using the knife as it was. The edge still retained more sharpness than a lot of non-knife people's edges, but was slipping and requiring too much...

Re: What steel balances attributes best?

K390 hands down . I still can't believe how easily it sharpens, considering the edge retention it provides. If stainless is necessary, then M390/204P/20CV are the most balanced overall, but S90V takes the cake for me. It's about as stainless as S30V, but has exceptional edge retention and is surpri...

Personally, I pictured something more like this when I read about the full-flat/hollow grind (I just curved one of the sides of a isosceles triangle).

This is how I interpreted it as well.

The Manix 2 is an awesome knife, and plenty here swear by Cruwear. Nice score. Hopefully you like it.

Re: What model would you like to see in CTS-204P?

Depends on where it falls in the rust resistance spectrum. If it's as good or better than VG-10, then either the straight spine or regular Stretch 2. If not as good, then no interest at all. Larrin rated it just slightly better than S110V, which is about as stainless as it gets(with currently used ...

Re: Wharncliffe's

A Delica Wharncliffe wasn't my introduction to the Wharncliffe shape, but it was the first that was attached to a knife I liked and used frequently. Mike's preferred grind sounds interesting for sure. It's something I would like to see and try. If I'm understanding it correctly, the grind is part ho...

Re: Webex with Sal and Eric?

I like the idea, but I also think the Twitch proposal seems more likely/easier. The added benefit of being able to watch the stream whenever it's convenient (past broadcasts), would be fantastic for anyone who can't make it.

Re: Knife categories

A while back, I bought a pink Native to keep for my daughter. She's about to turn 2, so the knife would be sitting for a while. I had it for a couple months and sold it. I figured that instead of picking one for her, she could pick one of mine (similar to what Evil D mentioned) or she could pick one...

Re: Fruitless search, it was right there the whole time

While it wasn't really your point, the idea of owning just one knife is very appealing. I was a minimalist, until I got married. Whoa!!! Don't go getting me kicked off the forum for preaching minimalism and some one knife malarky. :D But seriously, I almost feel like I am there. I don't know that I...

... I think this is one of those things that gets better with age, or maybe that's just wishful thinking. While it wasn't really your point, the idea of owning just one knife is very appealing. I was a minimalist, until I got married. I currently own 10 Spyderco folders, but only 3 of them are in t...

Re: What model would you like to see in CTS-204P?

There was a Native in the same color G10, with S90V blade steel. https://spyderco.com/catalog/details/C41GFGR5/Native-5-Polished-G-10-Forest-Green-CPM-S90V-Exclusive/1108 I am well aware of that Native, I have it. How does that stop KW from producing a standard peel-ply 204P version? That's true, p...

Re: What model would you like to see in CTS-204P?

There is already a forest green 204P Para 3, so I'm not sure why that's included in the options. I am also wondering why the Native 5 wasn't included as an option... I would much rather have another Golden-made G10 version than a FRN model out of Seki. Just my two cents... There was a Native in the...

Re: Fruitless search, it was right there the whole time

Organizing things and assigning categories or roles, is important to me, but tends to over-complicate things. The grass is always greener... This was my approach for a long time. I needed this model to do something, and this steel would be better for something else, and ... But at the end of the da...

Re: What model would you like to see in CTS-204P?

I voted Endura and Manix 2. Those would probably be the only two I would purchase, but I do want to see all of the options listed, produced with this steel and scale color.

Funny how that works, isn't it? I've gone through the same exploratory phases, and am still going through them. As Sal mentioned, it does sound like you have "the OC gene", and you certainly aren't alone in that regard. I’ve got it pretty bad. My wife just shakes her head at this point. As...
