Re: S30V

+1 on the Spyderco ceramic bench stones. Couldn't live without them anymore (medium/brown and fine/white). BTW, I get rid of most of the burr with one or two final soft strokes on the stone but along/parallel to the knife edge. Reg. S30V, there are simply some really outstanding Spyderco designs tha...

This is the real thing. You can tell from the screws, among others.

Re: Drinking the Maxamet Kool-Aid

"because I think the Manix 2 is the greatest thing since sliced bread"

I agree :)

WRT wear resistance, S110V and Maxamet are actually rather similar, don't expect miracles ... Maxamet is just much harder, so it can do stuff s110v can not - like engrave the s110v blade :)

Re: Replacing a ZDP Endura?

I agree that it's a beautiful knife but I have serious questions about the stability of the scales during real use. I would hate to be in the middle of nowhere on the rain and find out the wood hasn't been treated properly. According to the manufacturer (Rutland Plywood Corp.), " composite phe...

If you can still find the Pakkawood Endura, I suggest to get it. Beautiful knife.

Re: In praise of Mr. Ed Schempp

The Tuff is an interesting design, but both the one i own and the ones i have handled have been very stiff action and lock wise I like it so much that I have two, one as backup. I got both used, close to new, factory assembled still. The older one has a stronger lock than the newer one (my user); t...

Which of his designs would you call "must have"?
The Tuff, no question.

Also have the Bowie, but lock stick keeps me from using it.

Re: Can anybody else relate?

Yeah, don't worry about shaving. Go for a week each, and afterwards check how much light they reflect. Also, try to hit the occasional staple and check for chips :) And again, HRC is not just about wear resistance (you have a really nice spectrum there). Your 4V knife might cut through the staples i...

Re: Unpopular Blade Steels That You Like?

If I remember right that first run of the Chinook had a really handsome looking swedge on the spine part of the blade. It's been a long time since I seen one of the original, first run Chinook models. Thanks for the reply, JD. It's absolutely gorgeous :) I'll carry it the upcoming week-end and take...

Unfortunately too small for me. Now, if you like the blade shape and ergos, want something similar but larger with a better lock and action, check out my Amalgam :) :

I love 440V on my Chinook 1. Hard to compare to anything newer as the knife's geometry is so unique.

Re: To M4 or not to M4...

I answered yes only because I've liked hap40 in my seki models and I'd like the chance to try more rex45 in other golden models (manix!). I have no issues with m4, though. My 4V Manix behaves kind of similar to my Rex 45 knives (hardness and wear resistance). Obviously geometries are dramatically d...

Since Rex 45 is a slight improvement over M4 in edge retention ...
I disagree. Rex 45 is harder, but wears quicker. At least with my Spydercos.

So No.
