Re: Brand new knife, very small snapped tip??
Yep, there's a piece missing. If it were mine I'd just remember I learned something about the dealer that sold it and I'd sharpen the tip until it's restored. The missing piece is so small it won't take much effort to bring the tip back.

Re: PerfBaby Mule
I use carbide bits to mill hardened knife steel with no problem, but I try to avoid having to drill holes in it. After burning up too many $$ in bits I've decided I don't want to do that anymore. Milling a notch or jimping is easy enough by getting your feed and speed right and just taking small bit...

Re: Folder Survey ’23 - RESULTS
Thank you for doing this Bolster!! The results of your efforts are quite interesting. Most of what I see in your results is what I would expect from people taking a poll on this forum, but there were a few surprises. 1. I expected opinions about the importance of corrosion resistance to be more well...

Re: Sharpening and bladeprotection.
I use bench stones and nothing to protect the blade. I mostly use a 400 grit BBB vitrified CBN stone followed by an 800 grit Naniwa professional ceramic stone. For certain applications I finish with a 3000 grit Naniwa diamond stone but for most edges I stop at 800 grit and strop lightly on leather w...

I would not like that genie...but I'd choose Z-wear (aka CPM CruWear).

Re: Making a Kydex Sheath (step-by-step)
I don't disagree that there are a lot of tools shown and generally the fancier and more expensive tools make jobs easier. I understand how it can look expensive. It certainly can be. As I sit here I have a $530 list of bits, belts and other pieces that I'm about to order just to keep the tools I alr...

Re: If you could have any knife in magnacut, why would you opt for another steel?
I like Magnacut a lot. I think if I had to name one steel as the best "all-around" steel for knives it would probably be Magnacut. I can theoretically make whatever knife I want out of any steel and Magnacut is now one of my favorites to work with. I've been carrying a custom made Magnacut...

Re: Mule #12 Cruwear
That's a great Mule! Z-Wear is my personal favorite non-stainless steel. Great balance of attributes and tremendous sharpening response. When I make myself a knife intentionally I choose Z-wear 80% of the time.

Re: Show your Mule
Great looking Mules bob! I'd bet the shimmer of those handles has a nearly holographic look. It's always a little disappointing to take a pic of a figured, fiddle-back, tiger-striped, or curly wood because there's SO much more to see when it's in motion.
Very nice work!

Although, at the end of the day I think people should feel free to like whatever they like and there are no rules that apply to what you want to carry and/or purchase, THIS topic bugs me enough to make me want to give my 2 cents. (Sorry Bolster, my friend...YOU don't bug me at all...just this topic)...

Here's some pics of my little shop. Greatest display of manufacturing Tetris I've ever seen! Haha Random question, I'm assuming you milled your own file guide?? What's a reasonable price to pay for one/what does is the production cost of one? Also, going to give you a follow on instagram. I just sa...

I'm down to have both a custom and a Spyderco collab'. Totally. Like, totally. Thank you Robin! After allowing knife making to dominate my priorities 7 days a week for nearly 8 years, I had neglected too many major priorities in my life and it came time to "pay the piper" as they say. I h...

Re: Making a Kydex Sheath (step-by-step)
Needed to review this thread (thanks again CK). Let's see if I can describe this without photos: Some Kydex sheaths on production knives narrow down behind (behind = handle side of) the kick, but then open up again to the width of the tang. This does two things: 1) it allows for easier insertion (m...

Hi Josh, sorry for the delayed response. I've been preoccupied with some very necessary home improvements and haven't logged in here in a while. Thank you for the kind words. Working with Vanax is pretty easy. There are specifics to know about when it comes to heat treating Vanax but cutting, drilli...

Try https://files.catbox.moe/ah2fbp.jpeg Smells better than WD40 ( You will go inside smelling more like a farmer then a mechanic ;) ) I will look for it. I've never seen that brand. I wonder if it's available in the states. I'm always game for testing another spray lubricant. I don't mind the smel...
