Re: Ranking Sprint Runs? Recent & Past models?

I rarely buy the sprints and exclusives, but there is one that I have always kind of regretted missing. The frame lock m4 Military. I think it was a Knifeworks exclusive? That one came and went just before the time I was getting active on the forum. I would have enjoyed that one I think.

I have it down to these knives... GB2 I like the BTE thickness and slicing ability while still being tough PM2... will decide what steel if I enjoy the feel of the knife M4 Shaman I like the robustness of the knife and compression lock MABYE a pacific salt 2 Of those that you mentioned, the PM2 is ...

Re: Please help me pick my first spydie

Hi Bass, welcome to the forum. Those are two excellent models you are looking at and I think you will be happy with either. The M4 will be a bit tougher, the Maxamet a bit harder. I have multiple users in both steels and I’d say I prefer Maxamet. Great edge performance, amazingly easy to sharpen for...

Re: Spyderco Chinese Chef Knife?

I like the idea but my concern is price point. Spyderco (and their fans) tend to lIke using high performance steels. I feel like making a large profile knife like this in some of the higher end steels that Spyderco uses might turn out to be prohibitively expensive. This may not be a popular opinion ...

Maybe the Tusk for me. I don’t carry it often and don’t have any real world use for it but every now and then I slip it in my pocket just to enjoy the intricacy and beauty of the design.

Ugghhh, hate to think of the Shaman, a bad a$$ working knife, built for toughness...referred to as an adult toy. I bet Sal sighs at things like that.

Sigh.

Maybe they should hang an “Adult Toys” sign outside the SFO just so there’s no confusion? :cheap-sunglasses

Re: Has Anyone Used a Spyderco Folder for Field Dressing?

I’m probably a bit of an outlier with my opinions but I cleaned a TON of game with my dad growing up and we never used anything but folding knives. There was no such thing as a Salt knife back then but our folders performed fine and lasted decades. They cleaned thousands of squirrels, rabbits and de...

Re: How often do you disassemble?

Never for me. About once or twice a year I’ll get a fish scale it some heavy gunk in the pivot that won’t blow out. If that happens I’ll loosen the pivot enough to create and blow it out with a high pressure hose and retighten. Like Vivi, I’m not scared of taking them apart, I just don’t have the ti...

Re: Pacific Salt in Magnacut, with a handle like the Siren.

Based on the results of my corrosion resistance and edge performance testing I would like to see both the Siren and Waterway offered in Magnacut. —On a side note, I would very much like to see them both offered in serrated versions too. Especially the Siren. I feel like every Salt knife should have ...

Re: Free Handing On The Sharpmaker?

I like to freehand but the sharpmaker is an indispensable tool in my kitchen. I have my kitchen knives properly profiled so that I can hit the microbevel 6-8 licks on the Sharpmaker and have them shaving sharp again in less than 10 seconds. If you want to use low edges (and you want to use the SM ex...

…i'm still irritated by the issue, it's implications, and the response from some around here to honest discussion, but none of that is the knife's fault…. For those with the wonky serrated grind, if you lower the angle on the plain edge portion I bet it will look much better.
This.^ It looks like this is more of an issue with the PE section not being ground low enough to “meet” the serrations. (As ladybug and others have already noted)

Re: C-60 Ayoob Campaign: No I Won't Shut Up

I kind of like the way the serrations end. I think that slight height differential between the SE and PE section will make a very effective edge for “scoring” pull cuts on flat surfaces. Kind of like a little “micro hawkbill”. Just make sure that corner is sharp and it should be very effective at t...

Re: The Vivi Conundrum.

Easy one for me. I would prefer a Stretch XL Salt. The backlock is a proven design in rust proof folders. I have had a number of issues with compression lock Salts that never occurred with backlocks. Compression locks are also more “fiddley” when closing which is not what I’m looking for in a marine...
