Re: Fixed Blade Spydies Question
Unless it is spyderedged I don't see a lot of value proposition in Spyderco fixed blades. I look at a fixed blade as a tool that will see actual hard use and I have no interest in abusing a $200 knife in the great outdoors. Especially when a cheap carbon steel fixed blade will do the job fine. But i...

Re: Spyderco's Hawkbill blades? What do you all use them for?
It's not a hawkbill but my Lil Matriarch sees a lot of EDC duty. Boxes, envelopes, misc cutting that comes up here and there. One thing it's awful at (just like regular hawkbills) is cutting a coupon out of a piece of paper. Just snags on the point. A PE blade won't help with that. I probably could ...

Re: Spyderco, Japanese knives, and cost vs. materials
I feel your pain on the rising Spyderco prices. But the Chinese models are inexpensive and there's now a bit of selection too. For those of us that for whatever reason want to own 20 knives prices are tough! But what can you do?

Re: Spyderco, Japanese knives, and cost vs. materials
I'd like to know the material cost of one of Spyderco's knives. I bet a regular G-10/stainless liner/VG-10 mid size knife is $15 in materials. Maybe less. People get so hung up on material cost. I know the high end steel costs a fair bit more than ordinary cutlery steel, but my point it's about the ...

Re: Keep ending up with Spyderco....
There's definitely nice stuff out there, in some cases at very good prices. I really like the trend of budget brand collaborations. It's really my addiction to serrations that keeps me from straying much. I feel like other companies are desperately trying to innovate whereas Spyderco is more conserv...

Re: Delica 4 or Manix 2?
Manix 2 G-10, no question in my mind at all. It's sturdier and easier to grip with cold fingers or gloves. The extra couple ounces may offend the ultralite types but it's worth it.

Re: 2017 sleepers?
I think the value folders get overlooked. The efficient looks perfect to put to work without worrying about dinging up. I love the higher end options as well, but this definitely fills a need for me Yes, nice to see the Value line expand. Polestar looks interesting too. BD1 may not be much of an up...

FFG SE linerless G-10 and larger than a Harpy.

Re: Lil' Matriarch-Thoughts?
I love mine. Been nearly 100% of my EDC since I got it about 6 months ago. I find it way more useful than my Harpy for general carry.
The only change I would make is to make it FFG instead of hollow ground. I'm not even sure how hard that is to do but it would be awesome.

Why do you think that is? I'm pretty sure layaway is at least as profitable as a credit card purchase (on average).Evil D wrote:Kinda playing devil's advocate here but compared to credit cards there is no interest rate with layaway.

Re: Layaway program for more expensive Spyderco Models: Thoughts?
Layaway is I think just a scheme to help salesman close the deal on things you don't need so that you don't change your mind while saving up the money. At least in the modern era of credit cards it is totally useless even for $500 knives. I think if you even blink at the cost of a knife you have you...

Didn't some guy try to deliver an Endura to Obama? I think he was tackled by secret service eventually. Apparently you're not supposed to sneak into the whitehouse.

Re: They Got It Right The First Time IMO
Interesting discussion. I think "right" is a moving target. For a period of time the PM2 was all anyone could talk about. And now if PM3 details were announced people would go bananas. Consumers demand new products to buy. The models that are still with us relatively unchanged I think are ...

I've got a Gerber Shard on my keychain. $5. I only really use it as a bottle opener. Prying usually requires leverage which is hard to come by on something that fits in your pocket.

Re: Was the original Spyderco Native flawed in any way?
I have the original pattern in GIN-1 and S30v. The downfall of both is the clip with the square edges that catches on everything and bends easily. They redid the clip late in the S30v run. The Native 5 has a regular hourglass clip which is a big plus to me. The fit and finish on mine are nothing to ...

Re: How best to "Will" your Spyderco knives to people?
Why make a fuss about where your stuff goes after you're gone? If it's not appreciated it will eventually be sold or gifted away. Your progeny will figure it out. They may just hang on to the collection out of sentiment which if we are honest is part of why we have so many knives anyway. One easy wa...

Re: Full serration or combo grind?
Full serrated is very practical. I mostly carry serrated and very rarely run into a task it isn't suited for. It takes a small investment to get set up to sharpen it but it isn't hard to sharpen. It also functions better when dull than a plain edge blade. Native 5 LW SE looks like a fierce EDC blade...
