Re: Native 5 Lightweight Rex 45

BladeHQ, Knives Plus, and Knifecenter all show the lightweight and the G10 in stock.

Re: REX45 Para 3 Lightweight

I'm guessing everything is out of stock now, BladeHQ suspended my account and canceled my order :( It seems to have dried up. The impression I have is that there were not all that many made. They appeared at various sites from time to time, but they were gone pretty much immediately. I had email no...

Another good comparison would be between S90V and CTS-20CP.

Re: M390 vs 20CV vs 204P - 3rd Generation Powder Metallurgy

Thanks, Larrin, I'm glad you did this. Hopefully this will help dispel the "M390 is better because it is third generation" belief that seems to be common. They all use a third generation process, their own proprietary modification of the second generation process, and call it different thi...

Re: PARA3 with aftermarket clip question

I have the Lynch deep carry for the Para 3 and it carries about the same as the MXG pictured above.

I use the standard clip and carry tip down.

It should be better performing than VG-10 from looking at the alloy content. :)
If it is run at any reasonable hardness it should perform noticeably better than VG-10. More carbon, more Moly, more vanadium (2% vs 0.1-0.3%, and added 1% Niobium.

Re: DLC and rust.

If you take the DLC by itself only, yes, you are correct. But thanks to surface tension, oil will infiltrate and bond to do sides of those "pinholes", cracks or any other microscopic imperfections, sealing them (of course, not forever, the oil can be displaced with other materials, react ...

Re: DLC and rust.

It is better to have no coating than to have a coating with imperfections, at least in terms of structural failure. A good paint layer will protect carbon steel, but a paint layer with pinhole imperfections can actually lead to premature failure of the substrate (for example a chemical tank with coa...

Re: Knifejoy Exclusive Para Military 2

Seeing how 20CP is simply an analog of Crucible CPM S90V, and we have lots of S90V sprints. 'Spect it's cheaper to buy Crucibles version? It's 20CV. No. We are referring to 20CP, not 20CV. Spyderco used to make sprints in 20CV and it was awesome. This was about a decade ago. In my experience it out...

Re: K390 PM2 | Testing

They followed Hitachi's recommended hear treat for the clad Hap 40, and Crucible's for Rex 45, and the results were different. From page 6 of the CPM Rex 45 Edge Performance thread "HAP 40 is heat treated in Japan. They have their own heat treat methods due to the laminate. REX is made by Cruci...

Don't mind paying taxes for those purposes but its all the wasteful spending, misplaced priorities, and bad management in the federal and state governments that occurs that I have issues with..this is getting borderline political. States without a state income tax- Alaska Florida Nevada South Dakot...

Re: More 4V anyone?

What exactly would 4V give me that is enough improvement over M4 and Rex 45 (both of which I have) to justify buying it? For folder use improved toughness is not a determining factor for me, as the others I mentioned are fine in that regard.

Re: Military 2. What exactly is going on?

No, that is just over a year of hard use and how the picture turned out. You can tell by the blade size it's been sharpened probably over 100 times. Scrubbing and magic eraser will make it slightly more purple, but it's certainly much darker than a new one. Sharpened over 100 times in a year due to...

That's why I added "depends on the work environment". I also live in the South, but believe me not all areas are the same. ;) Yeah, I visit NC from time to time, and the vibe I get is that the research triangle and some areas around Charlotte are not as gun friendly as other parts of the ...

When their eyes glaze over and pupils dilate, you know they're thinking "serial killer?" or "militant survivalist?" Lol. I guess my (sorta) against the grain is a lack of concern for edge retention. And trust me, I understand how holding an edge might be very important in variou...

Shawn, you clearly like K390. How would you compare 10V to it? Edge strength, edge it takes, edge it holds, all else being equal in terms of good heat treat and geometry.

I live in the USA but 1,326 miles from Spyderco. I would spend a lot to save on a few knives.
