Re: Does anyone else play music?

Back in junior high (middle school for younger folks), I played the violin for a couple of years. This was back in the mid-to-late 1970s. But I was a lazy student. I never could learn to read the music, but had the natural ability to play anything and everything I heard by ear. I became very good a...

Re: POLL - Manix 2 ffg SE anyone?

Title says it. As far as I am aware of (correct me if I´m wrong), the current (ffg!) Manix 2 does not come in fully serrated, but just in PE and (some models) CE. Now a fully serrated Manix would make me buy another one in a heartbeat, in my case a lightweigt. Its tall, thin blade combined with a &...

Re: Spyderco DLC question

I have a PM2 and a Manix 2 in DLC, and once you start using it, it can appear to get scratch patterns in it, but it’s really just residue from whatever material you are cutting. So even though it may not look pristine when you use it, DLC is really durable stuff.

Re: Easter carry

Nothing special today. Finished my once-a-week shopping trip early this morning, and took my Salt 2 SE wharncliffe. Also my Victorinox Executive and Spartan SAKs. I’m almost exclusively at home now, so my Spyderco(s) is whichever one is laying within reach.
:)

Re: Crunch-Time Hardware? Spyders For Trying Times?

I’ve actually changed the Spyderco I carry when I do go out to my SE Salt 2 Wharncliffe. I figure if it becomes necessary to disinfect it, it’ll be a lot easier than disinfecting my G10 Manix 2.

This thread makes me wish my Caribbean was SE (even though I do like my PE Caribbean). :)

Went to the store early this morning, food... A lot of people wearing masks and the store was cleaning the carts as they were used etc. That’s what they’re doing in the stores here, too. Right now, most people I see are wearing masks or scarves over their noses and mouths, because it’s the recommen...

Re: I Don't Get The "Spydie-Flick."

A former neighbor of mine had a pit bull that was extremely aggressive towards other dogs. One morning, this neighbor was putting out the trash cans, and a woman was jogging by with her boxer dog. Suddenly, and like a bolt, the pit bull ran around the side gate and attacked the boxer, biting down on...

Re: questions about ball bearing locks?

The only type of knives with a better closed bias and retention than a good back lock are SAKs and other “traditional” slip-joint (non-locking) pocketknives.

Re: I Don't Get The "Spydie-Flick."

I think some people might just need to loosen up a bit. I'm kinda surprised how many people almost seem insulted by this idea. It's just fun , it doesn't have to be mechanically superior or more tactical or anything more than just fun. I've found that lately I've been doing thumb flicks on my Carib...

Re: Has the Coronavirus affected your daily life?

I wonder how many people will come out of this after it’s over with varying types of OCD around constantly disinfecting everything. And I wonder how many “super viruses” will evolve from people over-sanitizing things that might already be sanitary enough. I can also imagine that, even after this is...

Re: questions about ball bearing locks?

The only ball bearing lock knife I own is a G10 Manix 2, but it’s never come close to opening in my pocket. It’s certainly more secure in the closed position than either a compression lock or a liner lock. I agree with others that the back lock has the strongest closing bias. But the BBL comes a clo...

.. If you treat it as normal and no big deal, and only quietly use them and put them away, they won’t treat it as a big deal, either. Jim Thats kind of my approach too which is why it hasn't been a big deal although I no doubt think about it. It is funny how we all kind of have this tendency to do ...
