SUPER BLUE/SUPER STEELS AND RUST?

I've been carrying a new Dragonfly Super Blue as an EDC for the past 4-6 weeks. It's had considerable pocket time but not a whole lot of actual blade use. I noticed today that there are two small spots of corrosion on different parts of the blade. I never had this issue with any of my Spyderco EDC k...

Of all my Spydercos, the one I most often think of as pretty darn perfect is the Cat. I was lucky enough to get an original version with carbon fiber handle, S30V steel, and spine jimping--and no QC problems. It truly is one of the best all-around EDC folders I've ever carried.

BIG thanks to all for their helpful comments, except for Mjc1973's about sending the wounded Techno to him--although the free shipping offer was thoughtful :) I tried the simplest approach first and it worked. That was to loosen the pivot screws on opposite sides. The first time I did it the blade w...

I would definitely love to see a Para 1 incorporating all the improvements of the Para 2. And if the blade length were 2 7/8", even better. I'd definitely be willing to pay for those refinements without resorting to super steels (e.g. make it in VG10, CPM 154, or the Para 1's original S30V).

I've been wanting a somewhat larger Jester for years--maybe half again as big as the original (but larger than the Manbug/Ladybug ratio). I like that DutchBlades proposed two sizes. I'd definitely get a "Dragon" if the blade were in the Cat/Chaparral range.

I second the suggestion about the Para 1, IMHO one of Spyderco's all-time best knives. That said, it is a hair over 3," which can be an issue here in CA. I also agree about the Salsa ergos, although the Ti version is pretty cool--also pretty expensive if you can find one. I know it's not a comp...

Techno Technical Help

I always disliked the blue backspacer on my Techno--thought that particular shade of blue cheapened a superb knife. Just personal taste... Anyway, I got a Cuscadi backspacer (kind of a clear jade yellow/green) and swapped it out with the blue one. The Cuscadi fit perfectly and I only had the knife a...

The Caly Jrs (and 3s) are my all-time favorite Spyderco knives. I think the Sprint run of gray FRN Jrs a few years back were incredible, and the vintage micarta version is still total class. Re a Sprint run: I would love to see a toxic/lime green H1 version in both PE and SE--especially because of t...

When I think of a "gentleman's folder" I generally think clipless. I carried a Baby Goddard in my suit pocket during my working years. Now I'm with Paul about the Kiwi. I also carry the Air on occasion, and my all-around EDC is kind of gentleman style with a clip: the CF Cat, which is kind...

I have a G-10 Manbug that I don't carry too often. But it was my EDC on a trip to Chicago, where they have 2" carry laws. The MB was great and very useful. That said, in the MB size range I still prefer the G-10 Jester, or the burgundy micarta Jester that's been on my keychain for years. I don'...

+1 on all the above stores. Also add Martin B. Retting, a gun shop on Washington Blvd (near Sepulveda) in Culver City. Not a huge selection but a pretty good one. I have a SE Cricket Tuffram in my EDC rotation and I like it a lot. It disappears in my pocket and excels at opening clamshell packaging and cartons. As much as I'd like to carry a hawkbill like a Tasman or a Byrd G-10 Crossbill (if I actually could find one), I also live in LA county and am a bit u...

My Para 1 SE with the old-style jimping, although I don't exactly beat on it. But it gets the most use of any of my Spydercos--except maybe for my keychain Jester.

I can't imagine why the G-10 Crossbill was discontinued either--other than maybe SS is less expensive to produce. Hard to second-guess Spyderco, but it would seem to me that in a knife with a blade shape best suited for marine use non-slip grip would be of utmost importance. And G-10 is considerably...
