Re: We need a Shaman XL
But more interesting to me is Sal’s mention of a handle-forward version, as Jeff just mentioned. Yes, I'm patiently waiting for this one. A choil-less Shaman will give us more handle room and more edge. No need to make everything XL. Hopefully there will be some exclusives so it's not only made wit...

Re: "Knife People" more price sensitive?
Does your friend sell other items that are restricted to being sold at a MAP? Maybe the knife guys think that a seller could be willing to accept less, even though they can't advertise for less because of the MAP.

To me, the Vallotton looks straight out of an old New York mobster's pocket. Should have been named the Spyderco Gambino.

And that was the 2019 price before they discontinued it for 2020. After all the price hikes since 2019, if it was still in production it would probably be $240 or more.

Re: TiCN/DLC food safety
The Ti is pretty inert, and your food and air are largely made of carbon and nitrogen. Like Giygas pointed out, chemistry isn't that simple. Here's a good example. Anise (licorice) gets it's flavor from Anethole (C10H12O). It's an organic compound of only carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen that lots of p...

I thought the large "sharpening choil" was to get the blade around that button lock.

Re: Hardness numbers for recent knives
This video was brought up in another thread with some questions surrounding his methodology. I love his idea and applaud anyone willing to walk this path and put themselves out there publicly. I do hope hope the methodological issues can be resolved so folks have confidence in the numbers. What iss...

I think the Elastic Ceramic will continue to be improved on. Then it will make its way into pocket knives and become a lot more common.

Finally someone said it. Jurmuscle, for your first good quality knife, do not get s110v or Maxamet.Soanso McMasters wrote: ↑Thu Jun 09, 2022 11:42 amGiven that you are new to the knife world I absolutely would not order the S110V or Maxamet models.

Re: UpTern!!
I see knifecenter is listing it at $45.50 for MAP. The SS Meadowlark is only a touch longer, and that is at $37.80. So it looks like a 20% increase in MAP for branding. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

Re: UpTern!!
The branding is definitely confusing. All of these knives are essentially made the same. It makes me wonder if the price will be higher than the standard Byrd pricing as well. Maybe it's an experiment to see if branding makes a difference in sales. And if the sales are indeed higher, will the rest o...

Re: Broken Z-Cut
I can't see any reason to put a hole in a fixed blade, trademark or not. It has only downside, mainly that crud can get in and become a seed for corrosion. Here's a reason. By not including a trademark on basically all models, it can be harder to defend the trademark's status as a legitimate tradem...

Re: Sal, anything you´d like to share on the Golden made BACKLOCK Polestar? (Another "handle forward" knife?)
Personally, I’d like to see if any of the Chinese makers have gotten to the point where they can successfully pull off a compression lock! I'd love that. I said it before.... a Polestar with a compression lock would be the greatest knife ever made. It would have everything. The best lock, the "...

Re: Two questions to Sal about aluminium scales
My opinion is they use their exclusives as loss leaders to lock in customer habits so they'll pick them before another store for all their purchases; not just the unique versions. This is definitely an example of BHQ taking a reduced profit to increase customer attachment. It's called a loss leader...

Re: Two questions to Sal about aluminium scales
Kershaw had the Link in both aluminum (with milled chamfers) and in FRN. Before they were discontinued, the Aluminum was $49 and the FRN was $39. I think it's safe to say aluminum scales are more expensive to make.
