Re: Real World BD1 experience?
I'm surprised to read about BD1 being more chippy than VG10. I've been toying with the idea of picking up a Manix LW as a beater and, while I'm not really concerned with edge holding, both toughness and corrosion resistance would be pretty important in this application. Any more input on this? How w...

Re: Name the spyderco you can't pull trigger on
That would be the Manix. It's just so big and ugly, I'd really have no use for it in my daily life. On the other hand, it looks incredibly comfortable in hand, has a ton of variations to choose from, sports a lock I've never tried, and is constantly showered in praise by just about everybody on this...

Re: Do you use the brass guard rods with the sharpmaker?
I never use them. I have a hard time imagining a scenario where I would put enough side pressure on the rods to cut my free hand if I slipped. If I was so distracted while sharpening, I'd probably cut myself whether or not the brass guards were in place.

Re: Cruwear...
I have the same dilemma. Why Maxamet and not Cru Wear for regular production  Cru Wear is a more balanced steel and easier to work with ... I think Maxamet was a challenge to Spyderco. No other production company has been able to handle that steel. Spyderco is doing it and I think they are...

Re: Para 2 as EDDC
I live in a pretty seedy part of the world where, surprisingly, guns are very tightly controlled. I've considered buying a blade for SD a couple times and the waved Matriarch 2 was at the top of my list. Ultimately, I decided my odds of survival would be much greater if I'd just kept the 80-somethin...

Re: Fun with edge geometry
While I don't wish for a complete shift in the industry, I do wish Spyderco would offer a tiny bit more choices in the slim, pointy, thin-bladed folder category. I'm happy to see more people are voicing their appreciation for thin grinds and hope it motivates more maker to cater to these needs in th...

Re: Spyderco Khukri
It's a really nice, useful EDC knife. The construction is solid and the ergos are excellent. The shape might come off as unusual, but it never gets in the way, i.e. it's not a case of form over function in my experience. I've stopped carrying mine as I found it to be too big for my needs and far too...

Re: Official 2017 Mid-Year Supplement Discussion
One-Eyed Jack and Darn Dao are the clear standouts for me. I'm a little curious about ivory G10 on the OEJ and hope it won't get too dirty or stain indigo if worn with jeans, but otherwise I love the knife, it's a beautiful design. The name is great, too, reminds me of Twin Peaks. I hope the updated...

Re: Anyone see Apostle P's rant on Spyderco?
I'm not trying to be defamatory here, but I'd like to add my two cents as I think it's relevant to this discussion. Please keep in mind I'm one of the people who have experienced significant problems with the Mantra bearings, but I also think there are appropriate ways to discuss such issues, and th...

To the many new members; Welcome to our forum. Interesting thread. Lots of points of view. Re: What is your favorite stainless steel and why?
At this point, I've realized it's impossible for me to say. I've never had the exact same knife in different steels, which makes it very hard to judge performance objectively. I find that, most of the time, when I really enjoy the steel, it has more to do with blade geometry and who did the heat tre...

Re: Talk me into a Yojimbo
I agree with most of what's been said in this thread. The Yo2 is a beautiful design. I carry mine much more than my PM2, mostly due to the smaller opening hole and the more unusual shape, which happen to fit my small hands better. The point of this knife is surprisingly useful in EDC tasks. The weig...

Re: Sal, hope to hear from you
The Mantra, to me, is Spyderco's most frustrating knife. On the surface, the design is nearly perfect, but the execution is just not that great. I know I'm a minority on the forum, but I absolutely hate M4 due to its propensity to rust without warning. A patina never develops until one day you wake ...

Re: Spyderco knives: Copper, Brass and Bronze scales?
I love copper, but I find full copper knife scales somewhat repulsive. Perhaps I'd warm up to the idea if it was just the bolsters, as seen on the Schempp Bowie, or as accents (backspacer, clip, etc.) on a gentleman's knife. Even then, these metals give too much of a traditional feel IMO and tend to...

Re: Purpose of a Business?
Reading most of the answers, I'm thinking either I'm an incredibly selfish individual, or a lot of people are speaking more from a theoretical point of view than from personal experience :) I see several mentions of helping the community, offering value/services, pleasing the customer, etc. Beyond t...

I don't have much to add other than I would love to see this idea materialize. Seeing some of the unique Spydies from Deacon's collection, I know I'd be all over the design.

Re: Purpose of a Business?
A little disclaimer here, I run my own small business in a very unusual setting and everything I say is purely subjective and probably wouldn't apply to most other people running most other businesses in most other countries. My first goal is to make enough money to survive; break even and make a li...

That's some quality work, tstetz. The overall design is very appealing to me and I'd hope with some tweaks (FFG, wire clip, etc) it could be reconsidered. It would make an extremely versatile EDC.

Re: For those on the fence about a Delica purchase...
I remember having the same feeling when I bought mine. You can tell a lot of thought went into the refinement of this design throughout the years. I was also pleasantly surprised by the thin blade. Very much looking forward to the Wharncliffe version!
