The Calypso Jr. I just got one in for use as a PE knife that wouldn't be as intimidating to people I was working around. I'd prefer a deeper choil if it's gonna have one, but it's a great little knife. I guess the Native is supposed to take over the Calypso's role as an ergonomic mid-sized knife.

For my SE blades, I just follow the bevel of the serrations. The same holds true for my PE blades, but it's harder because the bevel is on both sides and therefore the beveled portion is smaller. I have a question. Would a strop be a good idea for Spyderco's blades? Not the spyderedge, just the plai...

In my newbie opinion, the biggest difference is in how well you can polish the blade surface and edge. VG-10 can be very highly polished for a very clean, keen edge that makes precision cuts. It really can shave hair with ease. CPM-440V seems to be a slightly coarser steel. It can't be polished as m...

Thanks. Looks like a good place to get more info on my three knives.

Anyone with a good collection and some experience care to comment?

Intimidation? My Native works well for that.

The SS Police seems to be popular. It just doesn't look like it would fit well in my hand (I like a choil rather than a fingerguard). Anyone know why the G-10 Lightweight version was discontinued?

The hollow grind means better blade strength for comparable weight. It also means the blade can be designed with a swedge to further reduce the weight. It's also easier to sharpen (my SE native lightweight only needs to be sharpened on one side, then you go along the other side lightly with the fine...

Good choice. The Native was my first buy as well, followed by a Rescue Jr, then the Calypso Jr. PE. It has a different feel, and I wish it had a deeper choil (always feel like my forefinger's gonna slip onto the blade during a hard cut), but it feels good in my hands, and a PE blade is useful and le...

The cricket. It's just too darn small. IMO, not much use for anything except as a box cutter. With the heightened security at airports, you can't even have the excuse that it's a socially acceptable knife.

If I wanted a small one, I'd get a Dragonfly or maybe a Salsa.

Lockback spring on Japanese models too strong?

I currently have a rather small collection of a Native (35/65), Rescue Jr, and Calypso Jr. (Plainedge). I have noticed that my USA-made Native has a much softer lock spring than the other two. I like the softer spring, especially with a David Boye dent, because it allows for a much faster closing te...
