Glad you are enjoying that Vagabond Cliff. It was a cool model when I saw it originally but just didn't have much use for it.

Re: Need More Smaller, In The Field Sharpening Tools
Like I mentioned in another thread, a double stuff with diamond on one side and fine ceramic on the other was mentioned by Sal a while back and I would love one. It is very similar to the DC3 or DC4 stones from Fallkniven. Should be great for very fast field repairs as well as simple edge maintenan...

Re: Edge retention slicing cardboard (VG-10, k390, M4)
I wonder how the VG-10 would have performed with comparable hardness to the M4 and K390 with the M4 and K390 at 59 but also with a run bringing up the VG-10 to 63-64 like the M4 and K390 are currently. I have a knife from Kyle Battleyon coming nin M4. Very interested to see how it compares to Spyder...

Re: How do you guys like your edges?
I prefer palin edges with a variety of finishes. This is the edge finish off fo my Fallkniven DC4 pocket stone. Very nice compromise edge that does wood working and aggressive cutting pretty well: http://i.imgur.com/QS6HJ3i.jpg Here is my preferred finish for thinks like rope and cardboard. Its off ...

Re: Veff vs Spyderco
While my opinion may not hold as much weight as someone like Veff who has been in the industry longer than my 24 years around the sun, nothing he did in that video was something I haven't seen/done myself with a properly sharpened Spyderco, Benchmade, and Kershaw serration. And a plain edge can do a...

Re: S110V Manix- not ideal for wood working
I do not like to choke up that far on a knife when applying a lot of force and prefer to use some leverage to my advantage. I choke up for detail work and take the rearward grip when I need to apply a lot of force. That said, I own one Manix2 G10 and it has just never been super comfortable for me....

Re: S110V Manix- not ideal for wood working
The square shape of the handles. Do you mean the top/outside part as it is pretty flat with light chamfering at the corners? Don't all of the Spyderco's have that same basic shape? Its the corners that dig into my hand. Its not something I have experienced with my Gayle Bradley, Endura 4, and stret...

Re: S110V Manix- not ideal for wood working
What exactly is causing the irritation? The square shape of the handles. Nothing is sharp, but there is pretty much no contouring so when a lot of force is applied with the hammer grip, the corners dig into my hand. Its totally fine in the saber grip, but as you know that is a very poor way to hold...

S110V Manix- not ideal for wood working
I recently got an S110V manix and did some wood cutting on pine cut offs from a contruciton site today. They were pine and fairly dry. Un fortunately, about 100 cuts in, it was very clear that this knife was just not designed for sustained, heavy wood cutting. It did fine making curls similar to wha...

I don't think the hole is licensed. YOu cant really stop people from cutting out a circle in their knives.

Re: A little wood cutting with the Chicago, some comments on grip
Oh I didn't mean the handle rotates, that is a very rare problem. I tend to get a lot of tilt in the knife when I do push cuts as you would do with this sort of cutting since the handle doesn't extend all the way through my hand. The blade will end up at an angle once I apply force to the cut, even ...

Re: A little wood cutting with the Chicago, some comments on grip
How do you keep such a short handle from wanting to twist out of you grip? Even in a hammer grip I find such small knives don't give me much power in the cut because the grip moves. Its the reason I don't really carry anything smaller than a Tenacious.

Re: Do "Collectors Club" knives tend to be worth more/more desirable?
It depends on how big of a collector the individual buying is and whether they want to use it. For example, while I would certainly call myself a collector, I don have any safe queens so to me, between the collectors club and the non collectors club model, I'd just get whichever cost less since the ...

Re: New ultimate mule steel - Vancron 40
All the talk of nitrogen steels in recent years is very interesting. It used to be just H1, now its all kinds of stuff. I would love to see some N360 hit the market in some large blade like a chopper or machete.

Re: CruWear vs D2
How does cementite compare to vanadium carbides? I have read and heard of some pretty dramatic, for a plain carbon steel, abrasive wear resistance claims of steels like White #1. I would assume this can come form the cementite? I know Murray Carter loves White #1 and uses it exclusively now. I have ...

Re: CruWear vs D2
So is that cementite formation the reason that, in general, the harder you heat treat a steel, the less toughness it has as opposed to a softer state? Does cementite contribute to edge retention at all or is it a wholly undesirable formation in the steel?
