Re: Fake check Shaman

100% fake. I've heard the fake Shamans actually have bearings instead of bronze washers.

Re: Why don't we see more bolsters?

Bolsters once served a purpose, but on modern knives they're usually a superfluous affectation. Spyderco tends to avoid design affectations in favor of pure functionality.

Re: Help identifying a Spyderco Military

It's definitely not a factory configuration. The G-10 color looks about right for the Cruwear Millie. I'm guessing it has the blade and show side scale of a C36TIP, and the rest of it is from a C36GPGY.

Re: Why no more linerlock variants ?

Serious question from this lefty to other lefties: Will someone please describe the proper way for a lefty to close a comp-lock folder with his left hand? I need advice! Here's how I do it. You must have the clip in LHTU position for it to work. Hand size versus knife size/model also matters. https...

Re: Two questions to Sal about aluminium scales

This is definitely an example of BHQ taking a reduced profit to increase customer attachment. It's called a loss leader...a basic strategy they teach to first-year business students. Strictly speaking, loss leaders are actually sold at a negative profit, but setting an atypically low profit margin s...

Re: Smooth jimping vs "hard jimping"

Functionally, I prefer the modern fine-toothed style of jimping as implemented on Golden models. Aesthetically, I like dino jimping, probably because it's unusual. The old style square-toothed jimping looks pretty cool too. I have many examples of all three styles. I consider it a design oversight w...

Re: New Tenacious a FAKE?!

The difference between a stiff action and a smooth drop-shut action is usually about 1/10th of a turn on the pivot screw and a drop of oil.

Your pics are too small to authenticate anything, but the markings you describe match the new marking pattern they started using recently.

Robco is a reliable and prolific eBay flipper, and everything he sells is authentic, albeit with significant markups on discontinued sprints.

Re: A legit Tenacious Carbon Fiber or maybe not?

That's just the new marking pattern, with the high curved text on the show side, smaller 'China' and the addition of Eric's symbol. Spyderco's current online catalog photos all show the new markings.

Re: The Spyderco Story: Time For A Sequel?

A digital copy of The Spyderco Story exists. It's in .djvu format with 600 ppi searchable body text. It does not appear to be a community-originated scanned hard copy, but rather a professionally produced e-book derived from official scans or prepress materials. The file has been linked on this foru...

Re: Native Chief XL - FIXED BLADE!

Eh, I'm much less interested in a Chief XL fixed blade. Assuming we're talking about a fighting knife, fixed blade construction allows many features that don't really work on a folder, like a symmetrical double edge blade and a guard. By the time I get done making changes in my mind, then pass it ba...

Re: Folding knives over 4 inches

I live in a state with no blade length restrictions. I would not want them to shorten the Chief, even by a small amount, to appease arbitrary bad laws that don't apply to me. I'll take any extra blade length I can get, especially on models with 50/50 choils that eat up 1/4" of edge length.

Re: Best Spyderco as Back-up to CCW

Not a Spyderco, but the Ka-Bar TDI. It's an angled fixed blade that gets around push knife laws. It was purpose designed as a weak side carry knife to defend against a strong side gun grab. Since it's a push knife that isn't, it also requires very little training - just grab it and punch with it. F...

Re: Best Spyderco as Back-up to CCW

To practice consistent carry with a wave opener, you also have to practice consistent dress, and you need to have clearance behind your arm to deploy. Janich-style inertial opening is the best balance of speed and reliability, if you can master it. Barring that, a standard thumb opening is the most ...
