Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

Hey I never got the memo that I should be carrying a Native Chief. What gives?

Re: What do you view as the main grip on these types of knives?

It's weird, but I find myself using the choil if it is there. I don't have a larger knife like a Chief or Millie, it might be different in those cases. With smaller knives, it's 100% choil. I have some Casey Lynch scales for a Delica that mimic a choil, which I use. Switch over to a "normal&quo...

I think this knife is the closest option currently to a larger sized lil’ temp 3.

Interesting idea. Love my Lil Temp 3 LW. Doubt many reviewers will make that connection, but I’d love to see how the handle widths compare.

I'm rather jaded from having been part of a multi billion dollar manufacturing site expansion, but I wouldn't bank on that being strictly true...

Thanks for the insight. I don't have much experience with these things. And, yeah, patience is hard after a Reveal drops.

Re: Reveal 14 Live!

The amount of Golden-made knives in this Reveal (including regular production knives) leads me to believe the expansion is done. Otherwise that backlog would be a mile long.

Love the lines. I'm glad there are some more handle-forward designs on the market.

Re: Reveal 14 Live!

Oh my, this has to be one of the best Reveals in recent memory. There were plenty of surprises, and I think there is just about something for everyone. Love the lines of the Bodacious. EDITED: Wanted to add that I was hoping the see the High Performance Delica, but there's always Reveal 15. The prof...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

On a side note - is there still a reason to pick Norton India and Crystolon stones in 2023? Isn't Cystolon their name for silicon carbide? I think there is a good reason to get silicon carbide over alumina oxide (what I normally associate with Japanese water stones), but I much prefer the King Neo ...

Re: Reveal 14 teaser from September's byte

Since Spyderco is the only consumer of SPY-27, I’m guessing they can’t get enough of it to put it as the default steel on knives that sell in such quantities. That said I’d like to see it on more models.

Re: if you could only own a 5 Spyderco knife collection:

Here is my list. Delica with my custom scales - This knife has sentimental value, and it is "the one". Wakiita Gyuto - I don't own this knife, but I do way more cutting in the kitchen than outside it. Only makes sense to upgrade to a Spydie. Wakiita Petty - See above. Lil Temp 3 LW in VG10...

Re: Reveal 14 teaser from September's byte

While not the reveal, there was another hint. This time about an upcoming tool steel. From the SpyderByte:
As for the other 16 high-performance steels on Dr. Thomas’ chart, Spyderco has produced or is currently producing knives featuring 13 of them. Soon, that number will be increased to 14.

Man, the last post about the K390 version has me itching to buy one. Do I need it? No, but I kinda want it. Why can't I be happy with what I already have?

Re: Positive improvements in marketing, social media and other things that I’ve seen recently

I too have gotten off social media so I welcome any info from there ending up in here. However, we are a dying breed. The new customers are out there and not in here. I doubt we will get preferential treatment (i.e., posts first come here). That said, you should be able to write a script that would ...

Re: XL knives to look forward to

Meanwhile I bought a Delica 4 on everyones recommendation and disliked it enough to nearly write off the brand. The S60V single liner Military that I bought for my second Spyderco, however, sold me on the brand. There's no accounting for taste; we like what we like. I get the feeling that large-kni...

Re: XL knives to look forward to

i think it's the fault of legislation. laws are too restrictive. Sometimes. I first got a Military from Knife Works in their really cool exclusive configuration. But it felt so **** big. Yes it was in violation of local laws, but I bought it anyways because I wanted a nice knife. The law said I cou...

Re: Phosphor Bronze washers: Theory and Innovation?

Your are, of course, correct, Patrick. My question was meant to alert the unaware that some Spydies are silky smooth without washers, even PB ones. Haha, oops. I don't get it myself. I took apart the Ayoob and just kinda stared at it. You watch enough YouTube videos and the Ayoob seems to defy &quo...

I have no complaints with PB washers.

But why is Moki-made action so s-m-o-o-t-h?
In the Ayoob sprint, there are no washers. There is a raised portion on the liners that come in contact with the blade. Still can’t tell you why it’s so smooth, but that has to be part of the reason.
