Re: Official 2018 Catalog Discussion

It's great to see the Calypso Jr. soldier on. Makes me hopeful there might be another sprint in a different steel (non-Super Blue fan here). Something I could really use a couple of is a Native 5 LW in something other than black FRN, but keeping the S35VN steel. Not to pocket carry, but to stash in ...

Re: Native wishlist

My Native 5 wishlist is the fluted carbon fiber scales paired with any one of the following steels: PSF27, RWL34, B70P, XHP, S35VN. Is S90V not good enough? I'm sure that it's more than good enough for a lot of folks, but I'm not into a high vanadium content. S90V is one of my least-favorite steels...

Re: D'Allara 3 feedback

Today I took a long drive to a shop in Oregon, Keith's Sporting Goods, which is apparently the only place in the greater Portland area with a decent selection of Spydercos. My hope was to find a neglected Slysz Bowie in the corner of the cabinet or in the back. No such luck, but they had two D'allar...

Re: Sliverax Mod-Squad: pinups & give-away

So many de-tabbed Sliverax's! I’m all for it as I’m over the flipper thing, and it does seem to make a good design better in this case.

I’m not keen on bearings in knives otherwise I’d pick up my own Sliverax to de-tab.

Re: D'Allara 3 feedback

Interesting thread! When the 2018 product guide is released the first thing I'll be looking for is D'Allaras. 1- The FRN model, 2- Any tweaks to the G10 model. I hope that D'Allara 3 sales haven't been so slow as to preclude additional versions. For me the current knife looks great, but the descript...

Re: Taichung Sprint Runs

Why not bring the Slysz Bowie back as a sprint? Maybe do some RWL34 steel.

To answer my own question, it might not make sense as this model would probably hog too much production time at Taichung.

Re: Where is the CF Para3 in S90V ?

Sorry, all the S90V has been used up and Crucible lost the formula.

I guess we'll have to move on to other steels for our sprints/exclusives. Darn.

Re: The Military is greater than all other folders because...

You guys are killing me describing the KW exclusive! I passed on the sale because I don't care for S90V, realizing I may regret it some day. I've been holding out hope that the same configuration will be released with a different steel, which is probably a long shot...

Re: New catalog wish list...

1- A Calypso Jr. sprint and/or another Calypso sprint.
2- C67 R sprint.
3- Military frame lock or Manix 2 in B70P, B75P, RWL34 or PSF27.
4- Intro of SRS15 for Japanese models.
5- Something new and svelte using CBBL.

No particular order for above. :p

Re: Fixed blade handles vs Folder handles

Good topic. This is a phenomenon that is kind of self-evident (how fixed blade handles tend to have better ergos than folders), but I haven't seen it articulated so clearly. The Gen 1 Stretch is my favorite folder handle shape so far, but I haven't tried every one on your example list. Need to try a...

Re: MAP policy change? 35%

When I look at something like the Native 5 G10, I see a fairly labor-intensive product that is possibly somewhat under-priced. So in that context the MAP change is more of a correction to get the pricing in line with production costs.

Of course this is pure conjecture on my part...

It's starting to feel like every sprint and exclusive is in S90V anymore.

I'm revisiting my earlier recomendation of the Calypso Jr. (although that would still be sweet), as I had forgotten about the C67 R. Bring it back in contoured G10 or CF!

Re: If you had to reduce your collection to three models...

I regularly use only 3 knives anyway, but the 3-knife lineup evolves over time. 1- PM2 * 2- Mule 3- Stretch ** * Starting to feel the PM2 is too finicky to adjustment, and I've also avoided switching to tip-up because of the fairly weak detent. Maybe I'll switch to the Manix 2 for this application, ...

Re: MAP policy change? 35%

I guess I'm not getting what the change is. Spyderco MAP is currently 40% of MSRP, right? If it's going to 35% that's a lower price, unless the MSRP's are going to shoot up...

Re: If you could pick one discontinued knife to turn into a sprint..

Calypso jr. in SRS15 or CTS-XHP Agreed! SRS15 is my first choice for Japanese steel, although if you're going to include non-Japanese I'd say B75P or RWL34 (XHP would be sweet as well). I'd throw in smooth, black G10 to emulate the old micarta. Calypso Jr. is the ultimate Spyderco design for me (bo...

Re: Spyderco Natural G-10 Manix 2 M4 Blade HQ Exclusives

I've always loved the natural G10, even before the Leaf. For me it would be nice to see it in the same models that Blade HQ has commissioned but in a different steel. Something stainless but NOT S90V or S110V.
