I agree absolutely with the shootist16. Some questions are, however, in order: 1. LOCK STRENGTH: how near to the MBC standard is the present liner lock? 2. is it possible to upgrade the Wegner introducing the compression lock but keeping the full steel spacer? 3. would be nice to hear Michael Janich...

Sharpening the Spyderco's Chinook?

Hi,

I would like to ask the following:

Sharpening the Spyderco's CHINOOK: 30, 40 or 30+40 degrees - what do you suggest?

I would appreciate much your advice.

Lock care?

Hi,

I have a rather simple question: how do you store you knives: opened or closed? Naively, I would expect that for lockbacks it does not matter. For liner locks it seems to me that opened knife saves better the lock (liner suffers less). Any opinions?

Mark, One of the cadidates would be CHINOOK. Very sturdy, presumably the strongest lockback in the world (MBC standard) - very important since you want 'a strong knife for heavy work and possibly SELF DEFENSE'. I own both, CHINOOK and WEGNER. As far as Wegner is concerned, I agree completely with Th...

Hi Fisherman, a few hints IMHO: I have Wegner and, recently the Chinook too. It is very difficult to decide between two excellent knives. I like Wegner very much, agree completely with Shootist's views (you find that in forums). However, the Chinook's lock is stronger(MBC standard) and this is impor...

First Chinook in Croatia?

Hi, guys, I got the Chinook 2 weeks ago, probably the first one BOUGHT in Croatia. Wonderful knife, a real tank. Very slight vertical blade play (as usual with lockbacks, Sal explained), otherwise really exciting knife. Question: somewhere between the hole and the handle there there are numbers and ...

Thanks Sal, thanks Ken, for answers. I understood that Wegner is 'heavy duty' and, according to some previous Sal's answer, that means at least 100 inch/lbs per inch of blade. This has to be compared with Spyderco MBC lock standard (200 inch/lbs per inch of blade), with Chinook and Gunting both exce...

Sal, Wegner and MBC standard

Hi Sal,

simple question: how does Wegner Sr.(C48), lock strength etc., fulfills the MBC requirements; completely? almost? 80 percent?,or ...?

If Wegner were not near the MBC standards, I would suggest to improve it in the future version (if it appears).

Best regards, Franco G.
