Re: Is there any interest in a THIN tool steel knife?

If I can find mine I'll measure it with my el cheapo crappy micrometer. It's the chrome handled one, too. This one’s immaculate, as new without a blemish on the chrome or blade. My old one had the Armour Hide scales which had worn away from use and saltwater to bare aluminium. https://i.postimg.cc/...

Re: Is there any interest in a THIN tool steel knife?

Was the Pixie blade stock really that thin? Hey 11, it may in fact have been thinner. I actually have a Pixie I was gifted after I lost the one I had from the 80’s. It’s unused with a chrome plated handle in a presentation box and I can’t bring myself to use it. I have a well used Miming also which...

Re: Is there any interest in a THIN tool steel knife?

A thin smallish fixed blade in tool steel would appeal to me You and me both twins! I’ve said numerous times, I’d pay good money for a small fixed blade with say 0.062” blade stock along the lines of an old Gerber Pixie. Any of the premium carbon steels would do I reckon, but given a choice I’d lik...

Re: Is there any interest in a THIN tool steel knife?

Such a knife sounds absolutely ludicrous. :spiral-eyes How would you ever baton hardwood logs, lift struck paint lids etc.? What if you were abducted by aliens on the day you were only carrying your thin bladed tool steel knife? The corrosive atmosphere in such a craft would surely rust the blade to...

Re: Protecting non-stainless steels from Corrosion

I’ve used near every corrosion inhibitor on the market I’d reckon and I’ve found for straight protection of non stainless steels nothing beats Eezox. That said I’m weary of the long term effect Eezox may have on different scale material, polymers, etc. even though I’ve no first hand reason to be. Fi...

Re: Would you buy Spyderco branded torx hand tools?

If I didn’t already own quality Wiha torx drivers I’d certainly consider a set from Spyderco.

As it goes, I wouldn’t buy Spyderco drivers as I’d simply be doubling up for no good reason.

Re: Almost lost my hand, possibly still might.

Hope you get better. Maybe get a lawyer and have a little talk with the company that made that "unbreakable" dolly. I actually cant stand the lawsuit happy culture we live in, but this could be a faulty equipment issue that can get somebody killed. VooDoo, I agree. I was a rigger for the ...

Re: Strop vs hone?

By hone I assume you mean a steel as used by butchers etc. I’ve used a steel a fair bit and continue to use one on butcher’s knives like my Dexter Russell’s You’re correct in that all a steel really does is to realign a soft edge that has rolled from hitting a bone or similar. Sharpening with a stee...

Wow, Jim! That sounds absolutely terrible and I’m very saddened to learn of this.

Hope it all works out and you make a full a recovery.

Very Best wishes, mate. You’re in my thoughts and prayers.

Re: Why not more knives with compression lock?

Hard to say but I’m tipping it’s probably because many people are fearful that when they disengages the lock the free swinging blade could chop their fingers off.

You’re most welcome, Jim! It is indeed Green Acres and the pig’s name is Arnold Ziffel.

Funny enough there’s a member here who’s username is Arnold Ziffel. Ah, hahaha! :winking-tongue

Re: why do I feel like the chaparral isn't for hard use?

I don’t own a Chaparral so rightly can’t or perhaps shouldn’t comment but I’ve punished a SE HB Ladybug for years now and never once found the tiny knife wanting. To the contrary in fact, the strength and capability of such a diminutive knife never ceases to amaze me. This leads me to believe the Ch...
