Re: I Tested the Edge Retention of 48 Steels

I would love to see some of the budget steels like 8Cr, 9Cr, maybe a Chinese D2, 420HC, BD1(I know BD1N was done already) and H1 thrown into this. I know getting the stock could be the trick for a few of these, but maybe Sal could assist? Some of those steels are often regarded as being low end and...

Re: Hiking Shoes

I am an outdoors professional so I wear hikers or trail runners pretty much every day of the year. I lean towards lighter weight, more breathable, waterproof models. Sportivas have a narrower toe from my experience. Keens fit wider. I wear a size 12.5, which is hard to find and many companies like K...

Re: Current Byrd Back Lock Quality?

Mine have been pretty good recently, although I never had any that I would call bad in the past. Certainly they weren't perfect, but to expect an exemplary knife at $25 back then was setting yourself up for disappointment. Never had clip issues, but finish was never what I'd call great, but I didn't...

I pre-ordered a PM2 Cru-Wear with brown micarta handles. This thing looks pimpin'! When will these badboys start to ship? :)
When they are available. Products in the Reveal catalog usually ship within the same quarter, but sometimes later... so could be a couple months or more.

Re: Use of word "patina" by knife enthusiasts

A forced patina in reference to cutlery steels is forced oxidation. The mingling of colloquial terms and scientific ones is the issue. Rust and patina are both descriptions of oxidation. "Rust" is colloquially used to describe ferric oxide, the reddish oxidation we see on steel. The statement that "...

Re: Pictures of Delica 4 and Salt 2 handle thickness.

Honestly, the handle difference is almost imperceptible in a pic. I was going to take one for you, but I can't see it being helpful. I certainly haven't noticed a lot of difference in use. In my measurement it's about 1 mm thicker, maybe a hair more. The grind is thicker at the spine on the Salt 2 f...

Re: Serrated H-1 vs. Serrated LC200N?

I am still not certain what large advantage SE LC200N offers aside from the ability to be flat ground. If LC200N outcut SE H1 I think Spyderco would be talking about it; but as previously mentioned in the thread, it seems the video says otherwise. I guess for how I use my SE salt knives, FFG isn't a...

Just own it, marks of pride.
This.

Once you've scratched it, it's easier to use it like a knife.

Re: Does Spyderco Have a Knife w a Glass Breaker?

I keep one in my center console. The SALT model is H1 and just $15 more. Mine is VG 10 which considering how little I use it day to day is fine. It’s really just there for emergencies. Exactly. That is all that I plan to use it for. I'll get the H1 model because it is going to sit in the car for a ...

Re: Spyderco Steel Types

I wouldn't use a honing rod ever personally. Worry about attaining good sharpening results first, then when you're able to get a good edge consistently, consider looking into strops. Honing rods and strops are meaningless if you can't get a good edge first.

Re: Unable to take apart screws on Byrd Robin 2

I've never attempted to disassemble a steel handled Robin, so I don't know if the body screws have D shaped holes which would prevent them from spinning. It's possible they did and you have stripped them. If that's the case, you'll have a real challenge getting them out as the screws will just spin....

Re: Unable to take apart screws on Byrd Robin 2

None of the screws are hex screws. Are you using torx bits or hex bits? I'm not sure if you're terminology is off or your tools are.

Is there a specific reason you need to fully disassemble it?

Re: Black Comprehension lock

Hey, All: The change to black liners on black-bladed knives with COMPRESSION Locks is what we call a rolling change. It is being phased into production as each individual model comes up for a new production run. The next question most people will ask will be, "When can I get a ________ with black l...

Those are small pits and can't be removed without removing material from the blade. They don't hurt anything especially if you're planning to use the knife. Just keep it clean and dry with occasional lube, or let the patina return as it actually helps inhibit rust. Flitz just polishes off the patin...
