Re: Magnacut Obsolete?!!!
Interesting new technology. I am only mildly interested in how it effects my daily use of steel because I suspect it is a method that will increase production cost and I just have no need for an even higher performance steel than what is already available. I tend to like steels that have been around...

Re: What do you think of the US Army going to the Sig XM5 6.8x51?
I hope using fancy scope technology doesn't start to make our service members less capable with more primitive aiming solutions. Not that I think it should not be done, I think the technology is one of the few ways to increase lethality over past methods, just like using optics in the first place di...

Re: BladeHQ Native 5 CPM-M4 Black DLC LW
Well DLC stands for Diamond Like Carbon, which gives you an idea of how tough it might be. If it is a true DLC coating then it should be very durable. DLC is one of the premium finishes used to coat high wear components on firearms, such as AR-15 bolts, and the coating significantly increases the li...

Re: What do you think of the US Army going to the Sig XM5 6.8x51?
A lot of the problems with the original M16 was that they were issued without cleaning kits. To compensate for this, they told the troops that the new rifle never needed to be cleaned. That resulted in guns that would not work and got a lot of soldiers killed. They finally fixed that issue. There w...

Re: What do you think of the US Army going to the Sig XM5 6.8x51?
The 12 GA. is my personal preference for home defence, but I wouldn't hand it to everybody else in my family because the recoil is too stout. For them, they get a 5.56, and in this case a Tavor, which maneuvers very well indoors. At one point I went through a faze of analyzing every gun I knew of an...

Re: What do you think of the US Army going to the Sig XM5 6.8x51?
Most are unfamiliar with the platforms potential problems, but many don't need anything better. I know a retired Police Chief who is also a Master Armorer and Master Gunsmith with over 20 years of experience fixing every problem that the AR can dish out, and he still believes they were the best opti...

Re: What do you think of the US Army going to the Sig XM5 6.8x51?
max808, Interesting you bring up the 5.56 tendency to tumble on impact. That reminds me of another reason why the 5.56 struggles to meet expectations today. The round was originally designed for the m16, which was equipped with a 20 in. barrel, a length that obtained the maximum velocity out of the...

Knife Making Suggestions
Here is are some questions for anybody who has experience doing knife making of any sort. I am interested in making my own fixed blade knives and am looking for some advice on good resources. There are four major questions I have: #1 Is there any learning resources anyone can suggest? Books, videos,...

Re: What do you think of the US Army going to the Sig XM5 6.8x51?
I think the round would perform very nicely in a bolt gun with a 22" barrel. With velocities over 3000 fps it will be very flat shooting, though I suppose barrel life expectancies will be a bit lower than many more common cartridges, but I know very few people who shoot enough for this to be a ...

Re: What do you think of the US Army going to the Sig XM5 6.8x51?
Mike Jones (Garand Thumb), who knows a thing or two about modern combat rifles and is a strong M4 advocate, has some thoughtful things to say about the MCX-SPEAR: http://youtu.be/GEf3ZlUkOCg. He’s “100% on the fence”…. :thinking Thanks for sharing, 2 minutes into the video I was reminded once more ...

Re: What do you think of the US Army going to the Sig XM5 6.8x51?
The Sig MCX has been one of my favourite AR-15 alternatives, so I am happy to see the military using a MCX based platform. I believe the gas system is superior to the AR rifles. Weight could be a concern, not for me personally, I always seem to end up with 8.5 pound rifles for some reason, but for a...

Re: Broken Z-Cut
I actually really like the aesthetic spyderco touch of a hole in a fixed blade, but I must admit I've always wondered if it could cause unnecessary strength issues. I haven't heard many occurrences of broken blades, but if I were designing a fixed blade for my own use, I don't think I could bring my...

Re: What are your top 5 favorite steels?
I don't have a lot of different steels, but I am definitely a high carbon/tool steel kind of guy. But I am also a fixed blade kind of guy as well and I own more fixed than folding knives. If I could always use a fixed blade I would, but it is not always convenient. For folders I see why corrosion re...

Re: Sharpmaker up and down
What I have observed when going up and down while sharpening, not with a Sharpmaker though, is that it does remove metal faster, can allow you to "catch" some duller spots that you may tend not to get in your habitual down stroke, but also tends to be less consistent because your hand will...

Re: Spyderco Kitchen knives. Amazing.
Apparently there is some sort of mystic science behind making good kitchen knives. I never thought it was a big deal until I've read what some people have said about true high end kitchen cutlery. Unfortunately my kitchen knives take too muck abuse by other users who aren't as careful with a blade a...

I would love to see cru-wear on a production spydie. This steel is one of the few newer steels that I had not heard of that actually quipped my interest.
