Re: A plea to Spyderco:

When certain brands make a big thing out of their blades being thicker and thus "stronger" than anyone else....I'd keep the thickness 'mix' in the range the way it is.

Re: Bull Fighting: Is it barbaric and savage or a good cultural thing?

Regardless of what I might find distasteful and needlessly cruel- it's entirely up to the Spanish to decide what should be banned.

Re: Stainless Steel Structural Steel: Why don't we see more of it?

What an excellent analysis of the situation, demoncase. Thank you! And here is a somewhat related question: If an American or Australian or other person wanted to visit an English village or small town that had the "feel" of an old-time Victorian or before village but also with access to ...

Re: D2 Steel Again: What should one expect from its properties?

I'd second the advice above- D2 from a known and reputable manufacturer is going to be a solid knife.....though as hard as a politician's heart when it comes to resharpening.

I have a Lionsteel Daghetta in D2 and it's scary sharp with a very polished edge.

Re: Stainless Steel Structural Steel: Why don't we see more of it?

Here is a related question for you about cost in buildings: Is it the expense of finely-detailed architectural work that is behind the lack of much intricate artistic details on most modern residential and commercial buildings? Look at buildings made in the Victorian period and Edwardian era, in bo...

Re: Stainless Steel Structural Steel: Why don't we see more of it?

You might see some Stainless sheets for cladding as an aesthetic or architectural feature....in those kinds of buildings that win awards for design from people with no appreciation of classical beauty. But in the actual support structure? Not required and too expensive for the application Yes, like...

Re: What is your favorite fruit?

Hey guys I just found out that by definition the "avocado" is also classified as a fruit!! Now that really shocked me when I read it. To me the avocado has vegetable written all over it. But it was about 10 years ago that an old girlfriend of mine won a bet with me that the tomato is a fr...

Re: What is your favorite fruit?

A good crisp apple takes some beating- Jazz, Braeburn or a Discovery for preference....though a bright green Granny Smith is always appreciated. We've always got lemons, limes and tangerines in the house- so they are a favourite too. Raspberries, whipped cream and crushed meringues make the best des...

Re: Glock 17, Austrian gun: How good is it, asks an Austrian who has no clue about guns..

Wartstein my friend, if you don't mind me bringing it up, regarding the Glock knives, what are your opinions of them? They seem to be made with some type of quality Austrian carbon spring steel and are coated for corrosion-resistance. I have read and heard that they are very tough and durable, and ...

Re: Would Fixed Blade H1 Knife stop Salt Water Crocodile?

You're talking about a predator that weighs over a thousand pounds. And eats sharks. I don't think any knife is going to stop it. Unless it's a light saber. Lol, exactly Tom. Just pure devastating power. You wouldnt knew what hit ya. Heck, even if you saw it coming, just the pure force alone, you c...

Re: Indian vs Swedish-made "Mora Knife": What do you think of these?

I operate on the principle of "If one thing is half the price of a seemingly similar thing, then there's generally a very good reason for that" In this case that reason is a blade made of low end steel run at 52 HRC. Taketh thee thine longest bargepole to said knife and apply it with vigou...

Re: Least liked thing about a favored Spydie

Lack of jimping on my Yojimbo 2 always puzzles me for a second or so when I grab it. (Yes, I know the sage Mr Janich doesn't do jimping so that's why I use the word 'puzzled') The 'extra' jimping in on the Manix 2's liners at the rear also puzzles me- especially when they are no corresponding slots ...

Re: Ebay question: Your speculation wanted.

The rules are there for a number of quite sensible reasons: 1. To prevent shill bidding agreements ("Hey buddy, My thing isn't getting bid on and I know it's worth $XXX- bid up to 10 bucks less than that for me to make the other guy pay what I want....If you win I'll send him a second chance of...

Re: How good was AUS-10?

It seems we all had an all steel, combo edge AUS-10 Native........ Was there only one of these that somehow changed hands to each of us, one after the other? :D To the point- I used mine very lightly and found it to be unremarkable in performance compared to my VG10 Natives. No worse. No better. May...
