The knives in white boxes were thru Amazon but not from Amazon...the vendors had different names but I am suspecting the sources were the same. This means you bought them from an Amazon.com seller, but not directly from Amazon.com (for the people who seem to be blaming Amazon directly). I strongly ...

I paid $46... And I had to order two of them! Each one had only two good stones, with the other two having defects. I had to mix-and-match to get a usable set.

I guess I do not think like most people. I would have no problem getting the same breed of dog as the one I had just lost; certainly the same would apply with knives, unless I wanted something different for a good reason.

Since it's new, I'd return it and request a replacement if I could. Why should you have to send a brand-new product in for warranty service, pay for shipping, the hassle, etc.? Hopefully you ordered it from a no-nonsense vendor (e.g. Amazon).

^ That happened to me after the first knife I sharpened with my SharpMaker. One of our steak knives we've had since Moby Dick was a minnow, and never sharpened before. Like an idiot, I wiped the blade off between two fingers, and got a nice cut. Before sharpening, I could have juggled with it withou...

I wonder how much a Tenacious with VG-10 would go for. If it were in the ~$60 range, I'd probably buy one.

A Tenacious with VG-10 would defeat the entire purpose of the "Value" line. It would no longer fit into that category.

I started with a Tenacious, and just ordered a Stretch, which has VG-10, as a step up (my Stretch is serrated, though).

Tight pivot on Tenacious

I have two Tenacious units. One works beautifully, with a pivot that opens as smooth as glass. It flicks open very easily. My other one has always been a problem. I can flick it open, but only about once out of every four times, and with considerable difficulty. It's not oppressively difficult to op...

I haven't used it yet, but it seems DuPont Teflon Non-Stick Dry-Film Lubricant might be a good product to use. It also comes in a 4-ounce dropper-type bottle.
