Re: Why carry two?
I occasionally carry a Ladybug Salt on my keychain along with my regular carry (usually a Yojimbo 2, Lil' Temperance 3, or PM2) for use in situations where I have to cut something but pulling out a mid-size/full-size knife in full view of others may attract unwanted scrutiny & aggravation. The s...

Re: A Month Without Spyderco: Thoughts & Observations
Great post. Thanks, I appreciate the positive feedback! There's a lot behind Spyderco's designs that gives me an impression of them being dynamic and "alive," and purpose-driven. And if they stay in the lineup long enough, likely to evolve. I don't get the impression that the flood of des...

A Month Without Spyderco: Thoughts & Observations
For the past twelve years or so, I have almost exclusively carried and used a Spyderco as my personal and work cutting tool, though I will reach for the odd Benchmade every now and then and I have a North Arm Knives Skaha 2 that is my “classy folder”. The ongoing revolution in the knife industry—wit...

Re: Am I missing out on S110V?
If this were in fact true, you could run this steel at geometries which are literally half the included angle of what the factory runs. If you believe it is in fact a high stability steel, I would suggest proving that to yourself in practice : reprofile the edge and test the results and see if you ...

Re: Am I missing out on S110V?
So, is it worth it to invest in a S110V Native, to be used as a high performance pseudo-Salt, or is it close enough to S90V that I can skip it? And if I should bite the bullet: Is there a particular model you love in this steel? I've got a couple of knives in S90V (Yojumbo, Lil' Native) & 4 in ...

Re: Spyderco liner locks
The liner lock & frame lock aren't my favourites (I prefer a Compression Lock, Mid-backlock, or CBBL), but lock-type is probably a lower priority consideration for me when deciding on whether or not to buy a Spyderco, compared to, say, overall design/ergonomics or materials. I currently own 3 Sp...

Re: Most used VS favourite 🤔
Is it just me or does anyone else have a most used Spyderco that is wildly different to their actual favourite? ... Do most of you lovely folk use your favourite the most, or do you have a favourite and a different knife that gets all the work? My favourite Spydercos are my most-used Spydercos for ...

Re: K390 Lil' Temperance3 Lightweight In Stk
I could be way off the mark, but is this knife similar in the hand to a Caribbean (my top pick for a folding work knife)? The Lil' Temperance 3 Lightweight & the Caribbean do have a very similar handle profile, but I find the former to be more comfortable because it is slightly thicker, and the...

Re: What are your top 5 favorite steels?
CPM Magna-Cut : I have limited experience with Magna-Cut thus far (only have 1 Spyderco folder in this steel, along with a folder & a fixed-blade by North Arm Knives), but the performance I've seen is very, very good. I have no problems at all if Spyderco eventually moves to Magna-Cut as its ba...

Re: Knife trends you just don't understand?
I'm a "live and let live" kind of guy for the most part, so I don't really spend too much time thinking about knife trends that don't directly affect my corner of the knife hobby. One trend that I couldn't totally wrap my head around, though, was the fact that for a period of maybe 4 years...

Re: Overlooked, Obscure Models Deserving Of A Sprint Run?
I'd be down for the following discontinued designs making comebacks as Sprint runs (or better yet, regular production models): Schempp Rock in Cru-Wear or CPM-3V Schempp Rock Salt in Magnacut Starmate in SPY27 Introvert in SPY27 Lum Chinese Folder in XHP, K390 , or S110V (or any steel, really—heck, ...

Re: What are your favorite large spyderco folders?
Given the poll options, I voted for the Endura & the Para Military, although personally, I don't consider the Para Military a large folder (I think of it as more of on the upper-end of the full-size range). If we take the Para Military out of consideration, I would have voted for the Endura &...

Re: Pick One Favorite.
If I had to pick just one, it would be my blacked-out Yojimbo 2. It's my most-used & carried work folder at this point, so I'd go with something familiar.

Re: Serration repair using files
I concur. I've been using a small chainsaw file for years to fix chips in serrated knives. Very handy tool to keep in one's knife maintenance kit.

Re: Ronin 2 back in stock with new sheath
Saw that comment about the refined sheath. Other than having additional holes, does anyone know if any other refinements were made to the sheath? Based on the pic, it looks like the shape of the knife impression on the sheath is much more firmly defined, at least compared to the sheath on mine. Whe...

Re: Advice Needed on Shaman CPM 15V Edge Damage
I was able to remove the damaged steel on the edge pretty easily with the SM brown rods. The edge definitely needs more work though. If I stick with the SM, would you suggest diamond or CBN rods? You'll be able to take off material a little bit faster with the diamond rods, which will be helpful in...

Re: What did you use your Spyderco for last?
Spent the past five days solo camping & hiking just west of Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. On a whim, I elected to bring a Street Bowie instead of either the Schempp Rock or the Becker BK7 (my usual go-to fixed-blade options for multi-day camping). I just wanted to go with something small...

Re: How have your preferences changed over the years?
About six years ago I asked this question here. I figured it's about time to ask it again. Great idea for a thread, vivi, it's very interesting to read how your knife preferences have changed, and I look forward to reading others' experiences. Many of my own knife preferences have definitely change...
