Re: What Spyderco Knife Has Surprised You the Most and Why

I really love the PITS. I am still surprised I can't find any flaws.

Also, after the FRN and G10 models, the carbon fiber Native 5 is a completely different experience.

Re: I don't care about stainless *Edited

Another swamp dweller here. So far only SK85 and K390 rusted/pitted (red rust, despite the patina) on me in a substantial way. So much so, I don't think I will be buying any more knives in these steels. In my experience, D2, A2, M4, 3V, Rex45 are all doing okay, developing patinas, with some minimal...

I am waiting for the SE Chaparral. It's fine if that's the only Spyderco I buy this year. I can wait until next year for the BBB folder.

Pole mounted. Nothing crazy like a halberd, but maybe a CS Bushman. :-)
Otherwise, I already carry what I want, legal or not, nobody really cares.

Re: What knife is best for…

I think maybe the Centofante. But any hollow ground and sheepfoot/wharnie, like the Swayback would be good. I was very happy even with the Caribbean sheepfoot SE, with the Maxamet Sage and with the Chaparral.

Do we really need even more excuses to carry two or three knives?

Re: Bark River Knives

DLT has a Magnacut Kitchen Knife available for preorder. I just put mine in, hopefully we’ll see it the year. https://www.dlttrading.com/bark-river-wa-santoku-pre-order I ordered a Squad Leader II 3V over a year ago and still haven’t heard anything. My pre-order for the Kephart was placed in April,...

Re: 2023 - Did your preferences change or stay the same?

My preferences oscillate only with the seasons; large knifes for the winter, small ones for the summer. The Stretch 2 XL G10 found its place among my other two favorite large folders (the OG Millie and the Chief), but the Military is still my favorite. I bought a Magnacut Native so I can use its bla...

NKD. The 4" Kephart will relieve the more thick and outdoorsy Tundra and Bravo 1 from kitchen duty. https://i.postimg.cc/zDwfsmZq/IMG-2820.jpg that's gorgeous. i need to pick up one of their knives to add to my collection. had some in the past but none st the moment. they make some really nice...

Re: Bark River Knives

Thanks! Had to look up the specs of the Kansbol, and sure enough, they are pretty close.
This knife is a touch smaller than what I imagined it will be, but feels nice and agile in the hand.

Re: Bark River Knives

I can't measure it rn, but these are the specs:
Overall Length: 8.85in/22.479cm
Blade Length: 4.25in/10.79cm
Blade Thickness: .093in/2.36mm
Blade Steel: CPM 3V@ 60 RC
Weight: 4oz

I think there is a barkie that's thinner, but that's still pretty good.

Re: Ok, could it be that LC200N fares better against Magnacut than some might think?

Edge stability is simply the resistance to rolling and chipping (as defined by Roman Landes). I gather from what Larrin Thomas wrote about edge stability (here: https://knifesteelnerds.com/2018/08/27/what-is-edge-stability/) that it is achieved by finding a balance between rolling and chipping for a...

There's been a lot of talk in different threads about this lately, so why not put the discussion in a dedicated thread? Personally, I like how Cold Steel sizes their recon series The Recon 1 Series is available with 2, 3, 4, and 5 ½ inch blades Micro is 2" blade. It's tiny knife for me. Mini i...
