eat the rust with a chelation agent such as Evapo-Rust, but keep an eye on it so it doesn't patina the entire knife, just removes all the rust. Then wash it with water, dry it thoroughly, apply Tuff Glide, hit it with a hair dryer quickly, then reattach scales. Tada, rust free (under the scales) bas...

Hi Parhelion, Thanx much for fighting the fakes. They are increasing. sal Its a losing battle it seems, but we'll be there to fight the good fight. The fakes, at this point, can be quite convincing in pictures but in person thankfully they're still reasonably easy to spot IF you're used to genuine ...

A beautifully made knife in a lot of respects, but I had a few gripes: 1) Given how beautifully rounded and buffed the handle was, why on earth were the choil and spine left so sharp? Would a few seconds to break those edges really have done that much to the price? 2) The knife was ground shockingly...

IF the work shop would wet-grind, it'd be a winner. Unfortunately it doesn't, so you do run the risk of burning the edge. Remember, at its apex, it is actually significantly thinner than aluminum foil. Of course this presupposes you're capable of sharpening better than the work-sharp ergo would be a...

I guess I would say, its imperfect, but I would say that from the perspective of someone who'll whip out a full size knife for almost everything except detail work, and then I'd go for something smaller and more rigid. So how critical can I reasonably be about a knife which, by design, wasn't meant ...

I bought one, and have been playing with it. A review is forthcoming, but for now I'll note that it is much smaller than it appears in the images, and that it will NOT substitute if you're used to a proper chef's knife. Its difficult to argue with its extreme value, and very functionally designed, i...

32mm deep edge to spine. A little quick math then. If we assumed zero ground (a little optimistic given that it has an apex bevel) and flat ground that'd make theta equal to arctan(3/32) or 5.36 degrees per side, 10.71 degrees inclusive in flat ground profile. Just as a quick comparison using the sa...

I don't fear breaking my Spyderco folders, no. I use mine in construction work, haven't broken a tip yet. If you regularly break off parts of blades, I can see how you might want to buy a brand that offers replacement blades. As an addendum, if you regularly break blades, I'd recommend buying from ...

Not terribly afraid of it, just know what the knife is used for. Here is the thing. If you have a fat knife, and are using it to pry, when it fails it'll be sudden and with little warning most likely. With a nice thin knife though, it'll be able to take less force yes, but it'll flex as a warning be...

The Simpsons had a great episode about preppers, which argued that we shouldn't be obsessed about protecting ourselves from one another but rather helping one another out and maintaining a community. I'd be interested to hear how you guys feel about this notion. The wonderful sentiment of someone w...

Shipping prices on Howes were right for this blade, but the base blade price was above market. *shrug* Thats the price I pay for pulling the trigger too slowly AND needing the blade in a major hurry as a gift. I can only hope this steel lives up to what Sal has said about it, particularly over on Bl...

Sorry to bump this back to the top, but I wanted to correct you Deacon just in case anyone else reading this and was discouraged by your numbers. (which to be fair you said you weren't sure were entirely accurate) .4mm is the thickest I could find on the blade above the apex, and that was at the ver...

yeah just behind the apex thickness. I apologize, I think of most things in metric, so converting your stated .019 (assumed inches) to metric is about .5mm. As a comparison spyderco's beefy grinds (like a para2) are .7mm, and I have a trim Bussekin at .3mm. Depending on how nice your kitchen cutlery...
