Clear or Black lock cage on Manix 2XL?

I have a Manix 2XL that's about a year old or so. I also have a Manix 2. On the latter, the lock cage is made of clear plastic, and on the former, it came with a black plastic one. I prefer the clear plastic one. Was the black one common for a while when the 2XL came out, and then they switched? And...

As far as I know, the lightweight Manix 2 models are PINNED together, not screwed. Your feelings may vary, but I stay far away from knives that a user can't take apart for cleaning, service, mods, etc. For that reason I never had any interest in the blue Manix 2 even though I would have wanted one b...

Does anyone here join me in desiring a Manix 2 XL with a naked-BBL design? You know, like the original Ball Bearing Locks before the advent of the cage. I understand that there are other issues: some said that the plain ball bearing wasn't grippy and so there needed to be a cage to aid in disengagin...

I haven't ever seen (but then, I haven't ever looked for) any horror stories about failure of the polymer cage on the CBBL. What stories are around? I want very very much to have complete faith in the CBBL. In all honesty, I really would prefer my favorite Spyderco, the Manix 2 XL, to have a pure Ba...

In another thread, I posted pics and details about a kydex belt sheath I made recently for my Enuff. It came out great, actually; I'm very pleased with it. I have no further use for the plastic sheath that came with the knife, which, I'm sorry, fails to represent Spyderco quality. At this point, I a...

I've had a Kershaw Skyline for a while and haven't been able to locate it around the house in a few months (although I haven't checked absolutely everywhere). But that's not a Spyderco. I don't think I've ever so far permanently lost a Spyderco.

My respect for Kristi, Charlynn, and Spyderco just grew measurably.

This post is one that should be envied by any corporation. It is honest, respectful, even-voiced, forthright, professional, and admirable.
Very well done, Kristi.

My EDC for self defense isn't made by Spyderco. It's made by Glock. Except on days when I'm dressed lighty or formally--then it's made by Kahr. I've spent some time studying blade based martial arts, and my major conclusion is that knife fighting is a brutal, nasty, bloody affair that I have no des...

I'm tryin' ta think ... I actually don't believe I've ever lost a one. I did lose a Walker Lightweight Linerlock at work back in the early 2000s. When I couldn't find it, I actually posted reward posters of it on bulletin boards around the building. It remained lost for two full years and then one d...

I believe that mine was around 1992 or 1993. It was a combo-edge Delica, and I think that at the time they were done with a 60/40 edge. I do still have that knife. It's not in great shape but it's functional. I remember being upset with some side-to-side blade play, so I took to it with a hammer and...

WD40 is a petroleum product, isn't it? I can't see how making flavored versions would be a good idea unless maybe they were going to use a different formulation altogether. I liked the joke about bacon grease for knives. :p I notice that no one mentioned peanut oil, and that kind of surprises me. It...

You might notice that I've ground a small choil notch in the heel of the blade. I used the corner of my gray Pro File stone to do that. The reason I almost always do that is that it makes sharpening near the tang easier.

Food-safe oils to preserve your working blades?

I like the idea of keeping a light sheen of oil on a knife, but I've always been at odds with the practice because I don't want to end up contaminating food with petroleum oils from a knife. If you have experience with using food oils on knives as protectant, please let me know what you've found to ...

Post pics of Enuff custom handle scale jobs and sheath jobs here please!

I really really like the hand-filling but still compact handle of my Enuff. I have no plans to replace the scales (also, I have no experience at doing so.) I did, of course, construct a kydex replacement sheath. (I'll cross-post pics later.) I would enjoy seeing what custom work forum members may ha...

I like the practical tips that you give in your tutorial. Experience is a great teacher. As you can see above, I ran into the "rivets too close to the opening" problem at the early stage of this sheath, and had to make a radical design change in order to salvage the project. Happily, it en...

I want to like the Lightweight Manix line, but I cannot abide the idea of a BBL knife that can't be disassembled. These need screw-together construction like no other knife needs it! These are SCREAMING for screw-together construction!

I'm looking forward to getting the press (when I have the spare cash) and another Tek-Lok and do a sheath for my Benchmade Nimravus Cub, because its stock sheath works ok but it's the type that has the annoying thumb snap on a web strap. It'll be sweet wrapped in kydex. ... I also have a Swick and I...
