Re: H1 Spyderhawks
Resharpening serrated H1 blunted by cutting vegetation in rocky soil involves a lot less swearing than other steels with serrations or inwardly curved edges.

Love the idea, Surfingringo!
Jazz,
The Reverse-S's inner belly adds more slicing goodness before the user enjoys the tightly-curved hawkbill portion. It's not much, but it makes Dodos and some Meerkats lots of fun to use.

Re: First New Knife in long time - Native5 LW vs Delica Wharncliffe
Sounds like the Native 5LW would be 'the knife' whether in exotic CPM S110V or only S35VN. Wharncliffes are wicked cool and the Delica 4 wharnie is definitely that mix of looks and cutting ability*, but you seem more drawn to the Native. You can try it in Maxamet, too, if you want a rare and exotic ...

The thinner the better. Full flat grinds or deep hollow grinds make cutting more fun.

They were sharpened on a belt and polished on a buffer. The initial edge for each one is unique. They'll sharpen with a Sharpmaker.

Re: Byrd Cara Cara Lovers
I have the older, hollow-ground version and it is a 50/50 grind like most folders. Of course, I've mostly ground off the hollow parts of the blade and now it looks like I fed it to a bunch of garbage disposals, but it was a regular, double-beveled folder before I got to it. ThePeacent, You should ph...

Textured G10 and textured titanium seem like a treat for those disinclined towards FRN. Can carbon fiber be textured without ruining its swanky goodness?
More FRN for me, please.

A HAP-40 Wharncliffe Delica 4 and a MAXAMET Yojimbo 2 would probably introduce a lot more people to wharnie goodness.

For me!Robbob wrote:Is there a reason for this?
Left-handed usuba and mukimono of any worth are prohibitively expensive so the Spyder Edge and the serrations ground on most commercial sporting knives are a wee consolidation prize for me. So are standard Compression Locks. :D

Re: PE Hawkbill & PE Reverse S Spyders?
Sal mentioned a rerelease of the Spyderhawk Salt in orange FRN isn't an impossible wish. Maybe with the Salt 2/D4-like platform, an H1 L'il Matriarch SE in some nice color could also come to be (just keep dreaming; just keep dreaming). The only Reverse S-Curve I don't swoon over is the Cricket. It's...

That looks like production to me. Steel framelock, VG-10 blade, reversible pocketclip, no Emerson waverizer so far as recollection goes.

Re: Durability of FRN handles over time?
This is total Bro Science. , but my used FRN Delicas dont feel as grippy as my BNIB ones . Used ones get rubbed against clothing and handled with hands that can pick up a lot of dust containing silicates and other abrasives, so that smoothing can totally happen. I sand the area underneath where the...

Re: PE Hawkbill & PE Reverse S Spyders?
Are your coworkers in a position where they can't buy their own knives? A Byrd Cara Cara 2 Rescue will offer lots of cutting power between sharpenings for little money. Other companies offer their own in 8Cr13MoV for even less money if the user trusts linerlocks and framelocks.

Re: More Spyderco Knives in 1095 and other Carbon Alloys?
Simple alloys with as much lath martensite and as little retained austenite as possible and as close to maximum hardness as possible are generally my favorites and stuff like 1095 is a great candidate (1095 at RC65-66 is a beautiful beast). But if stuff like friction-forging and super-quenching can ...

Re: PE Hawkbill & PE Reverse S Spyders?
I like to think I don't abuse my blades, but I definitely get rough with them. I've learned from this forum that batoning with a folder is viewed with some skepticism :) Im sure I'll get my hands on one eventually. Pocketknives are generally tinier and made of more brittle steel than splitting maul...
