What Are the Must have Spydercos for Newbies?
So I just started collecting Spyderco knives this past January. I was wondering what you all think are the "must have" for any collection big or small? Here's what I own so far in my collection: 1. Dragonfly 2 in FRN VG-10 steel 2. Native 5 in FRN in S35VN steel (guess S35VN is the only op...

Re: What's The Verdict on CTS-BD1?
Yea but that's 25% in this case, which is certainly significant. And who says your 17 year old isn't the average knife owner? Good point. Well some guys/gals at Spyderco crunched the numbers and decided they need this price point. I guess compared to ordinary 420HC, BD1 probably does well. I can te...

Re: What's The Verdict on CTS-BD1?
Yeah - I wish I could find a link to some discussion where someone was trying to claim BD1 was an alternative to VG-10 - maybe it was a LOWER COST alternative to VG-10. There does not seem to be a whole lot of excitement for this steel. In the case of the Manix 2, the street price difference between...

What's The Verdict on CTS-BD1?
My son got a Manix 2 LW in CTS-BD1. Seems as sharp as VG-10. I have read that BD1 is supposed to be an alternative to VG-10. Is it living up to expectations?
OBTW - I have a Manix 2 LW in S110V and it is awesome!! Not sure I would pass on a BD1 version - the translucent handles are very cool.

I will be the odd man out and say Endura. If there is any way you can go to a knife store and try each - I think that would be best.

Why No CPM-S110V Option for the Manix XL??
I have a light weight Manix 2 in CPM-S110V and love it! Great design. Great steel. Great value. Why can't we get a S110V option for the Manix XL?? For that matter - I would like to see Spyderco offer more knives in any model in S110V steel.

Re: Manix 2 LW Blade Question
Send it back if you are not happy. I have the same knife and it is very smooth. I would not worry about whether or not it's centered - some of my Spydies are - and some are not. All work well. As far as sharpening - I just touch mine up from time to time with the fine rods. Just don't let it get ver...

Re: Show off your latest purchase
My first Spydercos all purchased February this year. Native 5, Manix 2 (S110V), Delica, Caly 3.5 (VG-10), Dragonfly, and Sage 1. Love them all.

VG-10 and CPM-S110V of the steels I have tried. I still would not pass up S30 or S35V

Re: Manix 2 g10
Look at the Manix 2 with blue FRN handles and S110V, really nice. Also - the Sage 1 is a very, very smooth liner lock knife. The handle in the Sage 1 and 2 is slightly more narrow than the Sage 3, although the blade is the same on all three. Although carbon fiber and G10 handles feel better in the h...

Re: Disassemble a tight Native knife?
Both my Native5 FRN and my Native5 CF S110V are loose as can be straight out of the box. If I fully depress the lock release, the blade drops. Just as I like it. I've gotten more than my share of duds, though, even recently. Maybe try another? That's true - my Native 5 also just drops if you releas...

Re: Disassemble a tight Native knife?
I would say give the Native another try. If you want something that is a smooth opener and of similar size - then I recommend the Sage 1. Gorgeous knife. My Caly 3.5 is also smooth and there is a Caly 3. But I believe if you use the Native 5, oil it, and let it break in, you won't have any problems....

Re: Disassemble a tight Native knife?
I have a Native 5 FRN. Yes it is stiff but not to the point where it required 2 hands to open. I had a difficult time getting it to flick open but now do that as well. I just oiled it with Hoppes 9. If it requires 2 hands to open after lube - send it back. My 2 cents.

Both great knives but I would give the slight nod to the PM2. Do it.

So as a follow up - the release feels really clean now. I guess it just needed some more use and a good bath.

Re: Caly 3.5 Issue and Question
After cleaning and oiling it seems to be smoother. It definitely locks back with zero play. Not sure it's an issue at this point.
I like the design and am thinking about getting the Caly 3 in ZDP189/420J with carbon finer handles :D
