I've never used any of the Byrd knives but just from looking over the spec sheet on BHQ the meadowlark2 looks like a pretty solid knife for that price, and for a first knife, looking forward to hearing what they think of them.

I own the ladybug and the manbug they are both great slicers, and the ZDP-189 version will hold an edge really well. My only "complaint" is that they are too small to spydie-flick open. I highly recommend either the manbug or the ladybug.

Some people like strength, some like ease and convenience, some like strong self close. As Kpatr4 said, it gets down to a matter of preference. That's why we make to **** many locks and we've got a few more in-the-works.
