Bodog,
Have you tried sending any of your three defective knives to Spyderco? From what I learn here, they don't send out repair parts, but they do take good care of their customers, especially if product was defective. I'd give it a try.

Re: HELP broke tip on PM2 sprint!!! Life's over or not..
Normally, I prefer grinding the spine to repair a tip because it preserves the factory edge shape. Sharpening the edge to fix the tip sweeps the edge up more than I like. That said, in this case, with only 1/32" gone on a coated blade, sharpening the edge to regain the tip seems wiser.

Re: Spyderco knives: Copper, Brass and Bronze scales?
Silicon bronze would be my choice out of the yellow metals. Only as a bolster on larger knives, possibly as full scales on a gent's folder. Cuprous alloys are denser than stainless steel, so weight must be kept in mind.

Re: New Delica 4
I love the Delica. It was my first Spyderco folder, and I just ordered two of the new wharncliffe Delicas from KW. Though not a collector, I own several Delicas. They, along with my PM2, account for 80+% of my daily carry.

Re: Leaf shape vs modified drop point blade shape
I tend to agree with Deacon on the kindergarten scissors tip of some of the straight spined models but that is easy enough to fix with a grinder. I am not a fan of leaf shaped blades for a couple of reasons. First the profile is wider than what I like for most of my chores. Makes for a good slicer ...

Preordered two of the Jazz wharncliffe Delicas yesterday. Plus a small kitchen knife, all plain edge.

These topics always make me wonder why VG10 doesn't get the respect it should. If you want a do it all steel that's corrosion resistant, tough, easy to sharpen, that takes a very fine edge, it just about can't be beat for being a jack of all trades steel. It's easy to find other steels that out per...

Re: Mule Team 24
This is a fascinating discussion. We all wish we could see what's going on at the micro level when high vanadium carbide steels are honed with different abrasives. Our knowledge of hardness and the grain structure of these alloys leads us to form various mental models of what is going on during shar...

Re: Cubic boron rods
I have the CBN rods. They are much coarser than the brown rods. They come with a big warning not to push too hard. As with diamond plates (or rods), the coarser grits are more easily torn out of their bonding layer of nickel (?) that secures them to the steel substrate. Wide diamond or CBN coarse ab...

Re: Saw a new SharpMaker technique. Recommended?
I always give just the tip a special attention session on the rod flats once the rest of the edge is where I want it. The key thing is not to let the point slide off the rod, and this is easier to prevent when focusing on just the tip.

Re: Catalog opinions
The Police 4, really interested to learn what was changed. I carried an original in stainless for years. Should have lost it many times because that stainless never sticks to pockets. G-10, no swedge, no boye dent, Full flat grind. A long slim friend to your pocket that will stay there and stick in...

Re: Saw a new SharpMaker technique. Recommended?
Learned friends, I’m still feeling my way around the SM and sometimes have trouble getting to the last 3-6mm of the tip, so I would like to ask a question. In such a case is there any other option other than to further rotate the knife closer to perpendicular, so that the knife finishes near vertic...

I noticed the missing Boye dent right away. Was wondering if there are other changes to the lock which render the dent superfluous? The K390 intrigues me. Is this the first Police with a non-stainless blade?

It is the free chromium, not the metal carbides, that impart stain resistance.

Re: It isn't such a Stretch...
Back in July or August of 2010, I visited the SFO in Golden and bought my first PM2. They cost more there, but I was thrilled to get one at all. Every dealer was sold out. At checkout they added a partly serrated black FRN Stretch in VG-10 as a bonus due to the size of my order (I bought a number of...

Re: What really is hard use?
I'd say that if you have snapped your blade or chipped/rolled its apex, you have just defined the upper limit of your folder's "hard-use". So, if you're applying forces or touching surfaces that get you moving toward these catastrophes, you're definitely in "hard-use" territory ...
