General sharpening question: grit progression & ZDP

I've been chasing around an edge on my Delica (ZDP-189) for a few days now, and have a question for anyone who's interested in answering a nimrod's basic question on grit progression. I bought a Gatco diamond kit and it works well enough, but there's a LARGE gap in reality here with respect to their...

I realize that 22d is a "fat" edge for this type of steel, but I'm at 19d now, so to go down to 17-18 would be another bout of profiling and a major time drain. For now I'll just use this edge for a while, take my time and see how it wears, do a touch-up once in a while and see how I like ...

Would like to go in on a group buy, if still possible (just saw this thread). Any idea of when this will actually be happening? Is there an official list from Spyderco, or a specific contact person to get with? Didn't read the whole thread. tim

I've started on the edge on my Delica (dinged 2 days after getting it, my bad) and have found that I don't have the correct transition of stones from a "fine" diamond Gatco to their hard ceramic stone. It looks like I will get this right, but there's a large gap I'm filling right now with ...

Glad I live in Arizona (no blade length restrictions) concealed carry OK too. Bit hot in the summer, but mostly nice here. Thanks for posting the list & glad I don't live in a "liberal" state.

"Jack" Yep, cutting metal is a big no-no. My buddy passed away & I'm helping with his stuff. Found some WWI medals which needed to be shipped back to his mother (turns out it was her dad's stuff, Chaplain from WWI & WWII) so I was cutting the threads on the inside of the cloth to r...

Another Noobie

Hey all, just wanted to say hello & post a general howdy to everyone. I'm another new guy here with a "first" Delica 4 in the ZDP-189. I managed to chip the blade slightly in two places (metal to metal contact), so I'm working on my first sharpening now (ugh). I got a Gatco to begin wi...

Here's my first blade, just the factory edge, no sharpening yet but sooner or later (once I grow a pair & learn how to sharpen properly) I'll post a finished edge. This is a first Spyderco for me, but I suspect it will not be the last. Now I need to learn how to take pictures & sharpen. Alwa...
