https://files.catbox.moe/mfu5y3.jpg Nice knife Connor, is that a Superblue Caly? I’ve been enjoying my new-to-me Superblue Stretch, which a fellow Aussie forum member kindly offered to me. 91EE3F2C-FA39-4AE6-B15A-0BC4993AEF50.jpeg It dulls quicker than the tool steels which many of us are used to, ...

Re: UF Benchstone Questions
Hi John, Welcome to the forum. A characteristic of ceramic stones is they will load up quickly with steel residue and need to be regularly cleaned to work at their best. Spyderco recommend a powdered cleanser like Comet. I use Ajax, which is commonly available in Australia, and works very well. I th...

It’s been discussed before, and I’m happy to see it come up again. The more people beat the drum for it, the more likely it is to happen. I agree, a 52100 UKPK in contoured canvas micarta would be great. Make it a FFG drop point and it would be even better. For my purposes at least. REX45 would be a...

Re: Are Military's done?
I think I’m not ambidextrous, just alternately left- and right-handed, such that Spydie deployment (and even stabbing) is a naturally right-sided thing (and not a wrong-sided thing :)), but box-cutting, food-prep, whittling, and other precision-moves (whether pull- or push-cutting) are left-handed ...

Re: New here. Bought my first Spyderco!
Hey Randy, Welcome! You have good taste, the ZDP189 Caly 3.5 is a superb model - one of Sal’s best designs IMHO. Mine has a hint of up and down play, but not so much that it bothers me at all. The adjustable pivot means that side to side play won’t be an issue. I sanded the edges of the CF scales so...

Re: New CPM Stainless Steel??
It is made by Crucible. They make steel. Niagara Specialty Metal does not make steel, they are a rolling mill and distributor. Ah, thanks for the clarification, Shawn - I stand corrected. I wrote that post while I was having a bite to eat on the way home from work, so I was relying on my (often fau...

Re: New CPM Stainless Steel??
I think this steel is made by Niagara Specialty Metals, so it’s technically a PM steel, not CPM, which would indicate Crucible manufacture. If anyone wants more info, I recommend supporting Larrin’s work on Patreon - there’s more information available there. Fireman - this steel is more of a ‘balanc...

Re: Are Military's done?
Ya know, Cambertree, I really don’t have a favorite. Any one makes me smile when I use it, even my current pre-CQI one (soon to be two). All that real estate! All that edge-holding, or at least sharpening-response. Now, I haven’t reprofiled any of ‘em yet. REX45 and S90V won’t be fun, nor will 15V,...

Re: Are Military's done?
A few years ago, I got the KnifeWorks exclusive in those beautiful G10 scales and 204p. As soon as I got it, I thought it was way too big for me and returned it immediately. I now have a greater appreciation for larger knives. I'm kicking myself for passing on that knife. Sigh... Yeah, that release...

My CPM REX 45 desires are met, at least for now. :p It's been a long wait since the announcement of the REX Chief and i am glad it is here. This is the first sprint that i've bought two examples of-- the second one is in the mail to OZ. Glad to help a brother out. :spyder:  PXL_2021031...

Re: Practical methods for making Salt knives pointier
Another option on what Cambertree suggested: If you can get 2 pieces of copper busbars (like the ones used in MCBs or similar, 0.3"x1"x whatever length, put the knife between 2 pieces in a table vice, with the part being sanded off above the copper. Copper is a great heat sink, and will t...

Belt sander’s the best option, as Vivi said. Dip the blade in water often to limit heat buildup. .... Is it that important to avoid heat buildup when just working the spine (but not the edge)? Could this really go so far that the structural integrity of the whole blade gets endangered (on the very ...

Re: Practical methods for making Salt knives pointier
Belt sander’s the best option, as Vivi said. Dip the blade in water often to limit heat buildup. I’ve used 80 or 100 grit sandpaper too, but it obviously takes a while. If you use a compressible substrate like a mousepad or thin packing foam, you can radius the edges to make a crowned spine. I avoid...

My version of that knife would have to be a pretty close contender for my ‘If you could only have one’ knife.
