Re: Food Grade Protectant for Tool Steels
I use Boo's brand butcher block conditioner. Good stuff. Pretty much the same thing. Food safe and good for all the wood handled 1095 still in my kitchen knife blocks as well as endgrain butcher blocks.

Fully agree about the design parameters of the bolt action lock. Wish Spyderco would incorporate it into more or their knives....especially less tall, humpless and choiless designs.

Re: Kitchen knives and salt steels just curious
After decades of lusting after exotic knives and steels, there is still an awful lot of 1095 in my knife blocks that aren't going anywhere because they're old friends that I would miss dearly.

Re: Salt 2 Wharncliffe: gone for good or CQI incoming?
Stock up on several serrated Byrd Harrier 2 wharnies at @ around $25 ea. and don't look back. Stash in your vehicles, tool box, tackle box, garden basket, etc.

Re: Salt 2 Wharncliffe: gone for good or CQI incoming?
I don't think it's just the salt wharnies that are taking a hit. Seems a lot of wharnies are going bye bye throughout the product line.....even the new serrated Byrd wharnies which is a real shame.

So sad to see. I am especially shocked to see the relatively new Wharnies on the list.

So many diverse applications that one blade cannot cover them all.

Re: Poll: Which Golden Model Do You Want to See in 15V Next?
All of the above are fine choices; however, I don't see any fixies listed. A few years ago, a Phil Wilson prototype filet fixed blade was proposed in two different sizes, but nothing ever came of it. A 15V fillet fixie might require a little more corrosion maintenance, but it would be a workhorse fo...

Re: Spyderco Online Factory Seconds Sale!
Just my thoughts, but I always thought the Parata missed the mark because of so much negative blade angle. IMHO it would have been so much more flexible in functionality if it were neutral or even slightly positive in blade angle. YMMV

Jeez! Just drop the blade on the fingernail of your forefinger.

Normally I'd say that someone with two Fish Hawks is kinda greedy, but seeing as how one of 'em could tell war stories and the other more refined use, I say congratulations. :winking-tongue So here's the story: The nice-looking one has a thinner handle, better wood, stiffer thicker blade all the wa...

I'm not really a choil guy either, but there is one Spydie with a choil that makes perfect sense to me and that is my UKPK serrated salt. Essential for peace of mind when using or closing.

Re: Dream Salt Knives
In the past I would have gone with the Military, Manix XL, Police or Chief. These days I'd be more interested in a Resilience. LC200N FFG blade would be an upgrade across the board over 8Cr. Not just corrosion resistance, but edge holding and toughness too. The design has really grown on me. It's t...

Re: Pocket Jewelry?
I was trying to find information on my ZT 0460 and found a BF thread where someone referred to the small ZT's as 'pocket jewelry';i.e-only the large blades were 'okay' with him. So I had to research the term. Fine - now it makes sense...sort of. In my mind, the extra-large $400 knives that those gu...

Re: Is there a BYRD in your pocket??
You're gonna luv it. It's the kind of knife that makes you question why you spend the big bucks on so many other knives. The kind of knife that you don't mind recommending to almost anyone, including non knife people. For me, the serrated Wharnie Harrier 2 is kinda special. It's got that Goldilocks ...

Re: Time for a mini Catcherman?
I'd love to have a Mini Catcherman, but I doubt I'd use it for fishing. When fishing, I like a robust fixed-blade like the Waterway and/or a robust folder like the Pacific Salt. For filleting fish, I like a true filet knife. The Mini Catcherman would be awesomely slicy, though! If it were a Salt, I...
