Re: Give Us a SALSA Sprint
The compression lock of the Salsa has undergone some improvements since the Salsa was released. The new Salsa would have the newer rendition of the lock. The main difference of the knives with the first generation compression-lock like the Salsa, the first Paramilitaries or the Lil' Temp is that th...

Re: Give Us a SALSA Sprint
The Cobra Hood is quintessential fo me, any Salsa without it wouldn't be a Salsa anymore. Another problem with any Sprint of the Salsa I see is that it would be quite hard to improve on the Titanium variant. Yes, you could add some superduper modern PM-steel, but for my taste the classic ATS-34 is m...

Re: Any Chance of a G10 Calypso Jr.?
Sal showed during the 2012 Amsterdam Meet two prototypes for a Sprint Run of the classic C52 and C54. The Sprint of the C54 eventually came at the end of 2012. I asked Sal in 2013 in A'dam about the missing Sprint of the Calypso jr., he said that I most probably wouldn't come due to quality issues. ...

Re: Do *any* UKPKs have a plain choil?
Both possibilities do exist. My UKPKs in black G-10, orange G-10 and one of my UKPKs in foliage-green G-10 all don't have a jimping on the choil. The orange G-10 and foliage-green G-10 are early production pieces. IIRC the jimping on the choil was introduced in late 2008, additionally the jimping on...

Re: Police C07G with gin-1 blade: was this ever made by Spyderco?
If my memory serves me right, there were some made with G-10 and a GIN-1 blade as a domestic variant for the Japanese market.
This combination defintely exists, maybe some of them were also sold in the U.S.

The seats for the Amsterdam meet went really fast this year, by the time I checked out transport and accommodation all the places were filled. Sad to hear that you as a very active forumite wasn't able to get a place. Newbies are always welcome, but from what I've read here quite a lot of places we...

Re: Spyderco 40th Anniversary Native
I think it's a nice touch that Sal chose the Damasteel 20th year anniversary pattern for the 40th Anniversary Native.
The Thor pattern looks good, but personally I like the aestetics of Odin's Eye, Hakkapella and Heimskringla even more.

Let's add some pics of the convexed grind Moran with the factory mirror-polished blade. Re: Knife laws in Paris?
The French knife laws are a bit confusing and I found them not entirely clearcut, a lot depends on your personal appearance and the way you dress and behave. In most cases you should be fine with some French type of Slipjoint like a Laguiole or the many different local knife types. Paris may be a di...

Re: Chicago and Cat BD-1
Is CTS-BD1 not an upgrade over 440C? I just assumed it was since they were making an announcement about it. I do not own a Cat or Chicago. But one in S30V sounds nice. Were they the carbon fiber versions? Don't get me wrong, the CTS-BD1 is an excellent all-purpose steel and I like it quite a lot on...

Just out of curiosity : why do you think it is an upgrade?Spydergirl88 wrote:Yes this is good news. Steel upgrades are always great
The first Cats and Chicagos had a S30V-blade. I would consider this to be an upgrade to 440C, but not CTS-BD1.

Re: Fixed Blades versus Folders?
There were some nice fixed blades like the Lum Tanto or the Kumo. Personally, I stopped buying Spyderco fixed blades after the unneccesary hole in the blade was implemented in 2008. I can understand the reason behind this, but nevertheless this made almost all fixed blades less appealing to me. Let'...

Guess you better start hunting for some of the old classics like the Wegners, the Zowada, the C42 Viele or some variant of the C22 Walker.
