I only have the Kapara out of those three, and can definitely recommend it.

Re: is it possible to dye or remove dye from FRN scales
One other thing. I've only dyed FRN scales once, so I'm no expert, but I understand you can get normal RIT dye and RIT dye specially formulated for synthetic fabrics. Obviously the standard stuff works fine, as demonstrated by the many examples shown before on the forum, but it may be the synthetic ...

Re: Ronin 2 in CTS-BD1N!
That's what I got mine for and it works well, but not great. The knife is designed well for its intended role, let me make that clear. But some of the things that make a good self defense knife don't make a good utility knife. The scales are a little on the thin side and not very well rounded. Good...

Re: Pivot screw Dragonfly Salt
Hmm I wonder if a clip screw and pin would fit the pivot? I would try buuuuut I can't take mine apart. Yeah I’m looking at one of my Dragonflies (the SE Salt) and wondering the same thing! I don’t want to strip the pivot hole though! Edit: OK, I had to try it out. They’re different sizes. Aaand it ...

Re: Spyderco multi-tool?
I’d love to see another Spyderco multi tool. I’ve had a bunch of Leathermans, and they’re good, useful tools, but they’re not up to the same standard as Spyderco in materials and fit and finish IMHO. One thing I find odd for a company that obviously prides itself on smart design, is how they don’t h...

Re: Pivot screw Dragonfly Salt
If they would just replace the pivot with one that has screws on both sides, you could locktite one screw and not the other, so you could then use a torx driver on each side at the same time and the screw without the locktite would always break loose and you'd be good to go. With the single screw/d...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal
Good write up Vivi, and that's a very nice edge. I haven't had much luck with S30V at thin, low angles. When it wears a bit, I always seem to end up with odd microchips, particularly around the belly towards the tip. Sometimes it seems like even sharpening can initiate tiny chips here and there. The...

Re: Ronin 2 in CTS-BD1N!
Apologies if this has been mentioned before, but I was always under the impression that the previously-announced gradual upgrade to CTS-BD1N in Spyderco's CTS-BD1 knives was restricted to the Golden models (i.e., the Manix 2 Lightweight & the UK Pen Knife). Imagine my pleasant surprise, then, w...

Re: Pivot screw Dragonfly Salt
The pivot is a D shape, the problem is that FRN can only handle so much torque on the pivot screws before the hole rounds out and the FRN can no longer hold the pivot pin from spinning. This is why IMO every knife needs small minimalist liners around the pivot pin to prevent this from happening (al...

Re: Do you immediately sharpen a new Spyderco?
Yeah I'm always a bit curious to sneakily examine the edges of the knives of 'normal people'. Looking at kitchen knives, work knives, hunting knives, and random SAKs, cheap folders and the occasional decent quality pocketknife of non knife afi's, I would say most people never sharpen their knives at...

Re: Return of Temperance 2 (sort of)
Eric has been considering doing a remake of the Temperance 2. What steel would be preferred? sal All the above choices would be great steels for a fixed blade. V-Toku 2 would probably be very good in that format too - tougher than Superblue, and a bit more wear resistant than 01, with similar fine ...

I use the Stretch for that kind of work. Mine's a HAP40 model.
The Gayle Bradley 1 also works well, although I haven't tried the 2.

Noted scholar and prybar enthusiast Greg Medford disagrees with this. Re: Pivot screw Dragonfly Salt
Yeah I think I've mentioned before that the Dragonfly is IMHO one of Sal's perfect designs. But I'd forgotten about that non-D shaped pivot hole in the FRN. That's definitely something in need of CQI attention. The first Spydie I fitted custom scales on was a Dragonfly. Arrrgh, what a frustrating ex...

Welcome! You haven't mentioned what your typical uses would be. That'll have a bearing on what the 'best' knife would be for you. But assuming you want a general EDC tool, and you were already interested in the Para 3, I can vouch for the Tenacious being an excellent value knife in your nominated pr...

Thought you all might like to see some cross sections of actual meteorites. (Sorry for the poor quality pics.)

It might very well be, problem is they over-sensationalize too much. Have been through CAT4’s in the past they are like 747 Jumbo jet on your roof for like 12 hours. Wost part is heat and no electric for weeks on end, makes you realize how wonderful electric is. Tonight getting gas a pretty young h...

Yeah, not to digress too far from the intent of the thread, but I've been close to getting the XL a few times, but always got another knife instead in the end. The Manix and PM2 used to be compared a lot here. Quite a few of the members here expressed about an equal liking for both of them. I did to...

Re: Victorinox photo and discussion thread!
Very cool. Do you have both file types on there? The SD and nailcleaner versions? I've seen slipjoint modders use one of those replaceable double sided boxcutter blades, and slide it between the liner scales and the blade/tool, to cut the brass pins. I think they tap it with a small hammer to 'baton...
