Re: China

China will lose jobs to the US AFTER the US standard of living is on a par with China's and not before. To me, all this doom & gloom scenario is too reminiscent of global warming & eugenics. The US standard of living continues to decline. Just a fact.

Sharpened a carpenter's pencil this morning for my build. Cut a caulking tube end off at the correct angle for a good glue bead. Cleaned up some construction adhesive at the wall/headliner joint, nice, clean cut & peeled right off. Still plugging away on the build, but it's warm out this weekend...

Re: What Are You Reading ?

"Catching Shrimp With Bare Hands" the story of Bluntcut's early life, before he came to the states. Interesting read, amazing life as a kid. It's worth reading, if only to see how fortunate we are to live here in the U.S.

Re: Help sharpening dragonfly 2 zdp 189

Just be patient & use light strokes. The tendency is to try "too hard" at first. This stuff is incredibly hard compared to softer steels. I ended up getting a diamond stone to completely re-set the bevel, even it out & get the edge correct. The natural stones I had were pretty much...

Re: I hate to say it...

I think the idea of supporting fair labor & wages should be applied in many areas of the economy. If you support good wages in America, why not let others benefit who have similar value systems & ethics in other countries? There are enough third world democracies on the planet who are strivi...

Re: Cheesy Fillets

If you're Scottish, a Tamoshanter, a more generic British person might use a Bowler. Where I live, a Mexican Sombrero would keep off the flies and help keep it warm. I might be inclined to use a "cheesey" white sauce base with sharp cheddar, Lousiana hot sauce (vinegar base) and curry powd...

"This is a simple question - is this forum going to set that high of a bar for skepticism in a fair and unbiased manner or is it going to be held only for posts which are critical/negative in nature?"

An excellent question. Yes!

Re: Cheesy Fillets

Do you ever use green chilies? Not the hot, but the mild ones would be a perfect choice for this creation. Looks like quite a dish!

Look at the screw holding the pivot. What do you see compared to one which is from the factory & new?

Re: Leather sheaths for fixed blades

To prevent sliding during the gluing, I usually have a couple of sewing needles in place, to maintain correct alignment. They act as temporary fasteners while the glue is setting up. Lately I've been using a solvent-based contact cement from Home Delay (formica glue) for bonding & laminating. Wo...

Re: Springtime & blooms

Pretty sure it's a western diamondback. They tend to be pretty nasty when it's warm out. Glad it was a cool morning after a cold night or it might have had a different outcome. Absolutely no noise from him, so it must have been too cold for him to buzz or strike. The striking speed is measured at ab...

Re: Leather sheaths for fixed blades

For a Mule Team superblue I found used online. I think next time I should use some kydex liners. It's sharp enough to leave small slices inside when I put the blade in if it isn't perfectly aligned. Thin kydex lining would fix this problem. There's a thick "gasket" center liner for the mid...

Springtime & blooms

Went for a walk this morning north of Tucson. Was drawn to this cactus, an early blooming Hedge Hog. I was also wearing sun glasses, so my vision in the shadows was't very good. Special bonus from this shot was that I wasn't bitten due to the cold night temperatures we still have.... Do you see it? ...
