Re: Opinions on what I should do - LUM Tanto

I hope Spyderco takes care of you Robert. That's an awful lot of money for a knife. A man should be happy for that kind of money spent. Agreed. Sorry you had to deal with this. If you can get the knife back, just go straight back to the dealer. They should take care of you with an exchange or refund.

Re: How do you close your Manix 2?

Basically I put my thumb and index finger on each side of the lock, and then hold the rest in that same hand. Fluid, quick, easy one-handed closing. I can flick and unlock super fast this way, extremely fast actually. As I'm holding it with my one hand, I just give it a shake down into the handle. *...

Re: One way to determine which knife is your favorite

I absolutely agree, selling something is the best way to determine how much you really like it. And BTW, if you go over to Bladeforums you can find NIB GBs for $120-130

Re: Pricing...huh?

Name calling proves you don't care what we think. Nothing wrong with a healthy discussion about pricing but that is not what this is. The tone early on set us on the path towards an unhealthy discussion. You called for a boycott of the bowie until we got an explanation and called the pricing "...

Re: Pricing...huh?

LOL. What exactly am I upset about? I questioned the Bowie's pricing, get over it. I'm a big Spyderco fan, and therefor if I have extra time I go on the forums to discuss knives. If you think anything in this thread has upset me, I strongly suggest you shift your paradigm. Sorry, my sarcasm was too...

Re: Pricing...huh?

Questioning pricing is fair (Spyderco isn't tyranical). That said, pricing is something that is shared if the company feels the need/desire to do so. One also has to consider why some knives are so "cheap". The PM2 for many years even with the modified margin was a screaming deal and all ...

Re: Pricing...huh?

I think a lot of us should hold off on purchasing a Slysz Bowie until we hear from Spyderco the exact reason(s) for the unwarranted (totally subjective and possible ignorant, I know) expense. I mean, we're loyal customers, and the Slysz just seems way out of the norm. I want to buy one, I really do...

Re: Pricing...huh?

I get the impression that any question directed at pricing comes as unwelcome to some forum members. I have seen a tendency toward questioning of Spyderco practices being met with a degree of defensiveness by some of our members, and I think that it diminishes the discussion that can be had. We all...

Re: Pricing...huh?

However, I will not be buying one out of sheer principle. Unless otherwise explained by Spyderco, the fact that they can produce something like the K2 for around $60 less than the Slysz just doesn't make sense to me personally. Every reason people are coming up with at this point is pure conjecture...

Re: Pricing...huh?

I really wish Sal or Eric would chime in. Just a simple answer or reason(s) would put us (or at least me) at ease. Even if the Slysz is so much more expensive just because Spyderco wants (or their pricing model dictates) more profit. I'd be more than happy with any answer at all, even if in the end ...

Re: Storage ideas for Spyderco's?

Large Spyderpac, but I need to get another pretty soon. I'm also contemplating making myself a "Tree"-like display piece to go on my desk out of some steel we have around here, and maybe some paracord. If I can do it well enough I'll probably make a second and do it as a give-away. I'm st...

I'd get one, force a patina, and give it up for family use. Oh, and tell them ABSOLUTELY NO dishwasher.

Re: Pricing...huh?

Not a dig, nor a complaint. Just genuinely curious. K2. Super high end steel, collab, huge amount of materials approx $225 Slysz Bowie. High end steel, collab, smaller amount of materials approx $280 I'm not understanding the huge price difference especially considering the size (amount of material...

Pretty sure that is a contradiction, no? You are absolutely correct. This guy likes to posit asinine inferences, but refuses to gain any actual education on any topic scientific. I'm not sure if it is trolling, or extremely lackadaisical scientific ignorance. I used to try to actually share observa...

Re: Is black timascus another name for zirco-ti?

Yes it is :) Black Timascus™ is a product by Alpha Knife Supply. It is indeed a combination of titanium and zirconium. And its also refered to as ZircoTi or ZircuTi. But the trademark name is Black Timascus™. :) The way Black Timascus is made is part of its success. If the billet is not made correc...

Re: Is black timascus another name for zirco-ti?

timascus is a laminated material that uses different alloys of titanium. zirco-ti is also laminated but uses titanium and zirconium alloys to achieve the pattern. The moku-ti refers to the process, e.g., mokume. There can be considerable overlap between the mokume process and forge welding. Thank y...
